Heavy rains in 2005 brought an explosion of wildflowers to Death Valley and also a surprise rebirth of ancient Lake Manly on the floor of Death Valley. Two feet deep and covering an area of over 100 square miles, it was an incredible experience to see first hand. This photo was taken March 21, 2005. The folks on the left getting ready to kayak are a NPS ranger along with Huell Howser filming for his PBS television program "California's Gold."
