Early Summer 2016 Virginia AT trip, Audie Murphy Memorial near the Appalachian Trail west of Roanoke. We reached the Audie Murphy Memorial on Memorial Day, 2016, by chance as that was the next AT segment we were hiking that day in a series. A road provides access from the east side of the mountain to within a half mile of the memorial but we hiked up from the west side.
