RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Back to Oregon - July 2022

Thanks for sharing! We do love the rock art. You both really do have a sense of the land and how it likely was some 9000 years ago give or take a few thousand. You probably already have a copy of Steven Simms 'Ancient Peoples of the Great Basin & Colorado Plateau'. It is the single best readable...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Geezer Card

We each have a senior lifetime pass in our wallets but seldom need to display them. Most National Monuments don't seem interested. We do write down the number of one of our cards on campground envelopes, if not a free site. But we rarely go into the heavily used parks or busy campgrounds where...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Death Valley Flash Flooding

Yup. I expect we will shift to eastern Nevada and Utah this September. Though there has been flooding in those areas as well.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Death Valley Flash Flooding

The entire park is closed due to yesterday's early morning rain. I guess it was about 1.46 inches -- nearly a whole year of rain in a couple hours. About 1000 people stranded initially, some are getting out but other may need to wait through today...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Back to Oregon - July 2022

I am glad you both had fun fishing and had some nice hikes. As for the Mermaid -- to many people nowadays see themselves as some sort of star player in their own action movie. Makes no sense, but seems pretty common. The Steens are amazing. Thanks for sharing! Tony

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Have You Had A Close Call Driving - Cheated Death?

I am happy you had nothing to report but an adrenaline rush! As for similar experiences, Impetuous youth is to blame for all my near death experiences. I have grown cautious and maybe just a tiny bit forethoughtful in my older years.

Thanks for sharing your amazing trip. You gave us some good ideas for our excursion to SE Utah this September. Happy trails! Tony

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Colorado and the Rainbow Family

Our younger relative was a Rainbow for a few years. It took getting head lice to get him to cut his rasta hair (and then finding out his 'friends' would not associate with him anymore) and then getting busted for pot possession in Idaho, which a family retained lawyer barely got him out of a...

For us Benchmark Road & Recreation Atlases for each state. Both paper and digital are very good, though not perfect. Also, where coverage is available, National Geographic Trails Illustrated topographic maps, paper and digital, are even better, but coverage is limited. Google maps and our Garmin...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Gotten Stuck Lately?

First thing I looked for was blood. Did not see any so - ah, no biggie. When I worked in east Africa in 80's we referred to similar experiences as EASA - East Africa Strikes Again. Calamity was a weekly occurrence. Amazing how brave, tough, resourceful and good natured the local folks are. Got a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Three Month Home Base in Southwest

I have not been able to talk my lovely wife into a motel night since we got the camper. Romantic dinner? What could be more romantic than watching the stars after enjoying a 'loaded' wedge salad and some chocolate then daring the desert cold to get us while under our Pendleton wool blankets? The...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Three Month Home Base in Southwest

Dave and Phil have it right. Our solution is to visit as few paid campgrounds as possible and stay as far from crowds as we can. Only going to town for gas, water, laundry and fresh veggies. No problem with a month or so on the road in the back country. I always study google maps and Earth...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Oregon Trails - June & July 2022

Thanks for the last two installments. Very fun and inspiring. If you ever come back up to Oregon, and want to explore the area between Mt St Helens and Mt Adams, one of the most diverse conifer forests in the world, drop me a note and I can offer some ideas. Bring that Thermacell if you come up...

You may wish to contact local real estate agents. They have their finger on properties as well as, or better, than anyone. I agree with your Craigslist assessment. Lots of JackA##es lurking there. Maybe you can avoid the fate of the woman we ran into in Hanksville Utah. She went down there...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mid spring foray into Washington’s Okanogan.

Great trip report. Thanks for sharing. I traveled the north central and northeast Washington backcountry a fair amount for work purposes, but have not been back for recreation. You have us thinking about heading back up there. Maybe next spring, as we are planning a west central Utah desert trip...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Air bags, finally.

This is what I do. Just level the load and don't fret too much about after that. I do check them now and then with a tire gauge I keep under the driver's seat.
