RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Spare Tire - not a "mod"

Those spare tires under the bed are a huge pain to drop for use, and a much bigger pain to put back. I'm not at all happy with mine, but it's going to be a big project to come up with something better. In the mean time, I try to drop mine every year or so, just to make sure it'll still come down.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tired of High Tech

Iowahiker, what you are talking about is mostly modern manufacturing and modern materials. Most of that could be done without a computer in the car, and most of that could be done with updates of older designs. Complexity in the design and manufacture which delivers simplicity in the product...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tired of High Tech

Modern materials are a huge part of the reliability improvements, and modern design and manufacturing is another big part. A '50s truck made with modern materials to the original design would last longer than the original. A '50s truck with the design updated via modern methods - e.g., finite...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Alaskan Trailer

I've started daydreaming about an eventual trip up the haul road, and a small cargo trailer to haul fuel, food, spare tires, tools and so on seems like a necessity. Last time I was in Deadhorse, the gas station wanted something like $5/gallon! I'll be looking for deal on a trailer similar to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West connector pinout on '95 Starcraft Starmate?

I tried putting 12VDC on each pin of the connector, and nothing lights up! I'll have to try again, I suppose. I'm about ready to re-wire this thing from scratch, except I don't have time for yet another project.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Alaska - how late is too late in the season

The earliest I have ever seen snow stick up here was the first week of September, about '91 or so. Usually the snow doesn't stick until sometime in October. If you are prepared to deal with snow, you'll probably be fine. The only thing I'd add to what others have said is that you are going to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West connector pinout on '95 Starcraft Starmate?

The schematic is on the 16th page of this manual: http://www.antiguarv.com/sc2009/brochures/1995StarcraftTKC_OM.pdf It's not a bad schematic, but short on details like that pinout. I think I will just have to try putting 12VDC from the truck battery on each pin and see what happens. After...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West connector pinout on '95 Starcraft Starmate?

I'm pretty sure at this point that the flat-4 on the back is connected to nothing but a set of LED tail lights, which are redundant to another set of lights which are incandescent, and probably factory. I believe that the flat-4 and the LED tail lights were installed by the previous owner...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tired of High Tech

I have 5 F350 diesels, ranging from'87 to '94. No computers. I'm pretty happy with them all. I have a spare engine on a stand awaiting a rebuild over the winter, and a couple of parts trucks. I'll never have to buy a new vehicle.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West connector pinout on '95 Starcraft Starmate?

I have a new-to-me '95 Starcraft Starmate. It has an 8-pin connector on the front wall, apparently to connect to the truck electrical system. Does anyone have a diagram showing the pinout on that connector? I'd like to know what line from the truck to connect to each of the pins. I have found a...
