RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Spring Sprang!

We received about an inch of snow overnight -- more than a dusting or a skiff. It really does seem odd to have temperatures drop to the low 20s -- even upper teens -- this time of year. A day or two, sure, but a week of winter in April is definitely unusual.

We had a skiff of snow here in Bend overnight, now mostly melted...no big deal. But what's a bit freakish is that Portland got several inches. Snow in Portland isn't common but it's not freakish in winter. However, it is in April. A friend in Portland posted these shots of their yard...

The forecast for Bend this coming week, with lows in the lower 20s and highs in the mid 40s... ...could easily be for mid-winter instead of mid-spring. I returned home to Bend with my travel trailer, thinking "winter is over". And yet...I just went out and winterized the RV's water system...

...And Bend's forecast high temperature today is 25° cooler than yesterday's high. :O I'm meeting a friend for lunch...guess we won't be sitting outside.

Spring in Central Oregon I woke in the wee hours this morning and heard the dribble of water in a downspout = rain! It was still going on, though not much, when I got up a few hours later. When I took the garbage bin out to the street late this afternoon there were a few white flakes falling...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Current Spike in Gas Prices

This was kinda weird: Yesterday morning at a gas station in Deming, New Mexico, as I was filling up... well, I wasn't ABLE to fill up. The pump shut off at $75.00. :O I haven't had that happen in YEARS! As it turns out, the amount dispensed was just a gallon or two shy of filling the tank, so I...

A friend of mine who lives in Portland tele skis at Timberline, including most of the summer on that that year-round snow field. He skins up.

Here in southern Louisiana, between Lafayette and New Iberia, it seems like prices of regular have dropped about 30¢/gal in the past few days...! I was didn't see anywhere less than $4/gal when I got here, and now I'm seeing $3.70/gal (+/-) in lots of places. :O

Instead of DST = "Daylight Saving Time", it should be DCT = "Daylight Consolidation Time". After all, it doesn't "save" anything -- the total amount of sunlight is the same. It just consolidates it to the evening. I guess if you really want to stick with DST, at least make it mean "Daylight...

My routine: I let my "connected" devices -- phone, computer, GPS-informed clock in my truck -- make the time change while I sleep. Then in the morning, if that new time seems to be stable and working out OK...no temporal abnormalities... I manually change the time on those devices that need help...

I wonder if I'll be able to afford to return to the West Coast...? Maybe if I fill my RV's freshwater and holding tanks with [relatively] cheap Southern fuel.

This isn't really related to spring-weather...but it definitely is weather-related. Like...6 months ago. And I thought it was interesting. I went for a drive today to explore the boonies of the Mississippi lower delta -- to the end of the road. In doing so I passed through what must be a wall...

Camped here in the Mississippi delta, in St. Bernard Parish southeast of New Orleans, it feels like full-on spring today. Sitting at my campground picnic table eating a bowl of cereal for late breakfast, the sun felt hot on my face -- not just a humidity thing. Maybe it's the latitude effect on...
