RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West SUMMER SUMMER

I woke to the sound-signs of rain -- downspout dribble -- this morning. Yep, we sure do need the moisture, even if it lands on the weekend. (I guess if I was a working man who needs nice weekend-weather for recreation I might complain...a little... but I'm not.)

Besides members of the squirrel family, there's also a bunny rabbit in my yard. But if you've watched "Monte Python and the Holy Grail" you know what that can mean: I keep bear spray handy.

Very cool! All I have are chipmunks, ground squirrels and tree squirrels...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Current Spike in Gas Prices

Mr. 3pin, I'm glad I could be a beacon of hope in our current dark despair. I'm thinking that on my next winter wander...instead of traveling from place to place just to paddle my kayak, maybe I'll put on what used to be called "camp meetings", as an inspirational speaker. "Hear the good news...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Current Spike in Gas Prices

For me, paying these high gas prices is kind of exotic and exciting! :) It's like taking a driving tour of Europe without having to wear a mask for 12 hours to get there! :P

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West SUMMER SUMMER

SUMMER THUNDERSTORM! When I left the house it was lightly sprinkling, but I decided I didn't need a raincoat because it's warm. When I arrived at Sportsman's Warehouse it was thundering as I walked to the entrance. An employee outside on her break said, "We didn't ask for thunder, we want...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West SUMMER SUMMER

Today, June 1, is also the official start of Atlantic Hurricane Season, which runs through November 30. True, that doesn't have much relevance for wandering the West. But for the past 3 winters I've wandered from the West to the Southeast, typically beginning mid-October, so I have been down...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West SUMMER SUMMER

Today is the first day of meteorological summer...and it kinda feels like early summer in Bend. Not hot at all...more like "perfect" -- a high temperature of about 75°F right now. :) I wish it never got warmer than 75° here...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Spring Sprang!

Yesterday the high temperature here in Bend was just 59°F with a low of 30°F -- it felt unseasonably cold...and yet, tomorrow is the first day of [meteorological] summer. The weather: It's always sumpin!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Truck? Thinkin' hard about new F150

Thanks, Ramblinman. :) Yes, I've moved from a 3/4-ton F250 to a 1/2-ton F150...but my FWC Hawk has not. That is, I'm keeping the F250 as a permanent mount for the Hawk. The F150 will be the tow vehicle for my travel trailer as well as for general-utility truck stuff. This 2022 F150, with 3.5-L...

Here in Bend looks like we're back to late-winter in late-spring, today anyway: the forecast high is 49°F and the low tonight 29° But it's sunny.

Kinda like hiking down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon -- the return leg of the trip is harder. (no...I've never done that hike, but I can imagine. ;) ) A Scottish friend of mine quoted a saying about mountain hiking: "Your lungs take you up and your legs take you down".

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Truck? Thinkin' hard about new F150

After a 3½-month wait (a wait due to the 'fiberglass shortage' ) my new A.R.E. truck canopy arrived yesterday and installed today. Now my new rig is complete. :)

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West It's Here! 2023 Michelin North America Road Atlas -- SPRIRAL-BOUND

I like the Michelin spiral-bound for 2 reasons: The arrangement, order, of the maps in the atlas and the spiral binding. Arrangement: Instead of the atlas pages being ordered alphabetical by state name they're arranged by geographical location. e.g., the page that covers northwest Nevada comes...

Three days ago, Wednesday, it hit 80 here in Bend. I had all the big windows in the house open and I wore shorts all day. Could have been summer... ...But looks like we're back to late-winter / early-spring for a few days.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West It's Here! 2023 Michelin North America Road Atlas -- SPRIRAL-BOUND

My favorite road atlas for many years, many editions. This 2023 edition of the Michelin spiral bound North America Road Atlas was just released today/yesterday, and I received my copy today. For turn-by-turn navigation help while driving, sure -- I use an app on my phone. But for browsing...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Current Spike in Gas Prices

Today in Bend was the first time I bought gas for my new truck, and I paid $4.799/gal for regular. (I received the truck with a full tank from the Ford dealer). Unfortunately, this Rite of First Refill was marred by the fact that the pump jockey didn't fully fill the 36 gallon tank (several...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Spring Sprang!

It's been winter-cold all week here in Bend, with a bit of snow every other day, soon melting. Last night and this morning we got almost 2 inches, and if this forecast is accurate it may be the last 'significant' snow of the season. Last significant snow, maybe... but let's not forget...

Yep! B) Yeah...but it's a poor year when the maximum depth at Mt Bachelor barely tops 100 inches.
