RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West My New Weather Gadget

My nickname (call sign, handle) here is Weatherman, and I'm definitely a weather enthusiast (nerd). And yet, I haven't owned any [working] weather instruments in years. Last week I changed that, with this little guy: It's by SensorPush. This model measures temperature, humidity and...

Well, actually, week after next I'm going to fly home to Bend for a 2-week break from my winter wander. See friends, celebrate my birthday, sort through mail...etc. No, I DON'T miss snow in Bend. I do like snow in the mountains, however.

WEATHER-NERDISM: After 3 winters traveling and camping on or near the Gulf of Mexico coast I've learned this, winter-weather-wise: It's all about the wind direction. When it's blowing from the south, off the Gulf, it's going to be warm, usually humid, possibly wet. When it's blowing from the...

Camped here just a few yards from Aransas Bay on the Texas Gulf coast, I was reclining in the Observation Lounge of my trailer, observing nothing except my phone... wasting my life in the usual way...when I glanced out the rear window: real life was happening! I ran outside -- barefoot -- to the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Happy 2023

HAPPY NEW YEAR from the Central Time Zone! This afternoon I'm going to participate in a First Day Hike (stroll, actually) on the beach here at Sea Rim State Park on the very-southeast Texas coast, led by a naturalist. I am also planning to do a 'first day paddle' (on my own) this morning. I'd...

I mentioned above, "surrounded by miles of marsh". Well... here it is late December and there are still mosquitoes active here! But after tonight and a low of 20°F I reckon the only ones still active will be the few that took refuge in my trailer.

Got 6 weather alerts here, southeast Texas, from the National Weather Service: My concern is for the low temperature and not letting that freeze any part of my trailer plumbing. The forecast low is 20°F...and I've camped in sub-zero temperatures a number of times... But those were always dry...

Ventusky: Weather Maps & Radar Am I the last person to hear about this excellent app?! As The Weatherman, it's dang embarrassing... But I'm grateful to friend CraggyMan for pulling me out of ignorance. On the live app those wind arrows are animated -- cool! The CMan says there's a web...

I'm at latitude 29° right now, so it's gonna be harder for me to detect the change than those closer to the poles. Maybe if I am very still...squint my eyes...

OK...so how can you guys detect zero rate of change (of day length) but I can't?? Damn my unromantic literalist enginerd brain!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Sightings thread

Looks like it's been a long time since anything has been sighted...so I'll remedy that: Right now, in a campsite about 50 yards from me, is this FWC experiencing the same torrential downpour, winds, lightning and thunder that I am here in Sea Rim State Park on the southeast Texas Gulf coast...

If this forecast holds it'll be a wild ride from the high on the 22nd to the low the next morning. 49° drop from high to low. I care because I'll be camped near Sabine Pass, at Sea Rim State Park on the Gulf of Mexico... And thinking about the water system in my camper.

No snow here, southwest Louisiana, nor even rumor of snow... But it is forecast to touch freezing tonight, which is about 12°F colder than normal for the date.

A few years ago I was camped on the crest of the White Mountains (California) pointing west, into the wind. The wind was gusting up to 70 mph, and I was afraid that the pop-up would be damaged. It took all of my 200+ lbs to get it down, but I did.

Here's what AccuWeather says the Bend area can expect, snow-wise, over the next few days: It's a typical amount for Bend. We can get a foot or more, but it's rare.

I, however, am experiencing very different climate than my Winnipeg friend. You know it's humid when your softgel defies gravity... ... not to mention popcorn salt that's too clumpy to dispense.

I know a guy who lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I was talking to him tonight, he told me that his car wouldn't start this morning because of the cold. I don't know what typical is for early December in Winnipeg, but looks like it'll be brisk again tonight -- especially the windchill...

I saw this at a certain big-box retailer this afternoon in the greater New Orleans area. The diesel price is the lowest by far I've seen in a long time. I didn't see any qualifiers posted so I assume those are the actual prices.

Dan, do you mean that the short-days time of year goes by faster? For myself, I attribute it to age -- ALL time is going by faster.
