RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Winter Watch

At home in Bend there have already been Winter Storm Advisories, Watches and Warnings, and December 1 marked the beginning of meteorological winter. So it's here - winter! (Yes, even here... where winter means you don't use the A/C as much as in summer)

"40 Million People at Risk of Severe Weather Across the South" I'm in Mississippi, but outside of the Tornado Watch zone. I am, however, in a Flood Watch zone... and camped near a river. But...if the river rises too much I reckon I'll just hop in my kayak and ride it out to the Gulf. Head for...

This was the humidity and temperature just before it started to rain: It's raining now... not much RH-room for evaporative cooling.

My next door neighbor in Bend texted me that he had his snowblower out today, taking care of some overnight frozen fluff. I replied with a couple of photos from my day: Not better or worse, just different.

A couple of hours ago I was in a supermarket -- a BIG store -- and at one point it started raining so hard that you could hear it on the roof from inside the store! :o

Now a little more intense for a while: It's nice that the campground I'm in has paved parking pads...so I can step outside without sinking into the mud.

It's raining like heck here on the Gulf coast of Mississippi! And as is usual down here, when it's very wet it's usually warm, because it's coming off the Gulf of Mexico. The rain is ratta-tat-tat on the roof of my camper, with an occasional boom-da-boom of thunder in the background.

Yeah... Actually I had already decided to move because, even pre-storm, it was too windy for fun kayaking -- too choppy. But the official "EVACUATION" did add to my trip experience!

Yesterday I experienced my first ever mandatory evacuation -- from a state park on a barrier island (St George) off the Florida panhandle coast. It was due to hurricane / tropical storm Nicole. I'm camped inland and west of yesterday, near Ebro, FL. It's raining moderately hard, but not too...

Here's my (regular) gas-buying experience over the past week: I-84... I-80... I-70... I-64 Once you get east of the continental divide, gas prices are amazingly similar from state to state. Diesel was generally $5 to $5.50 everywhere. In some states that meant diesel was $2/gallon more than...
