RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Flatbed / Ute Tray design input wanted please

Best wishes on your search for a custom, ALUMINUM flatbed. Sourcing this was by far the biggest headache in my 2018 build with a Ram Chassis Cab 3500 SRW and a new FWC Grandby. (Flatbed model.) We found many companies happy to work in steel- few in aluminum. One hint- look for companies that do...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Escape Trailers for cold(er) weather camping?

Sioux and I LOVE our FWC Grandby flatbed camper. We hope to enjoy it for years to come. That said, we've been looking for a bit more draft-free cold weather option. Then we stumbled across Escape Trailers. We want a higher clearance, self-contained trailer for boondocking on Forest Service and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solo Stove

We have one of the smaller Solo Stove models. (Ranger) Not really a fan because while while the Solo smokes less it also produces less heat and obstructs view of those nice glowing embers. (The two issues are probably related!)

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Replacing 2 AGMs with 1 100Ah LiFePO4?

Your experience is super useful to me, Frank, because it mirrors my setup AND I am a total idiot electrically! I have a 2018 Grandby flatbed equipped the same as your Hawk with the two original AGM's from FWC. (I can't get them to die!) QUESTION: What year is your Ram 3500? I have a 2018 Ram...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Garmin Overlander

We like our Garmin Overlander even though we haven't (yet) downloaded any maps on to it or frankly used any of it's more sophisticated features. We do appreciate the built-in iOverlander app...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Winter storage where it's cold and snowy?

You will be fine. Over the last 11 years I've stored my 3 successive FWC's (yes, it is an obsession) outside in a Colorado winter with zero damage or leaks. Once the snow gets about 12" deep on the roof I take a roof rake and (gently given the skylights and solar panel) pull it off. DONE!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West After a long wait, we're finally going to Bear's Ears

Congrats on beating the cancer! Sioux went through aggressive breast cancer treatment in 2020. Not a fun year but all good (so far) since then! Be sure to travel Snow Flat Road (#237) west of Bluff, UT. Easy 4WD (mostly 2 WD), very isolated and you can pull a permit for Moon House Ruin. We...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2019 FWC HAWK FLATBED FOR SALE W/2018 RAM 4X4

As the owner of a 2018 (non-diesel) Ram 3500 and a 2018 Grandby Flatbed camper this is a very good deal if it is all in good condition!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Stove Replacement

Very interesting idea, Jack! Has anyone else added a BBQ igniter to a camper stove? If so, which one did you sue? (Bonus points for photos.) Enjoy your trip, Jack!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Stove Replacement

Old stove 6000 BTU burners- this one has a 7200 BTU burner. And yes, cut out is bigger but that's not a problem. Good to know. And the ratings on it are "ambivalent". But honestly, I can't find anything better/stronger. Any ideas? I'm also kicking around (interminably) going lithium. Then I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Stove Replacement

Our 2018 FWC stove wasn't involved in the famous recall. But I had to pull it to repair a dropped burner tube and instead of reinstalling it I'm thinking of an upgrade. Here's my priorities: 1. Automatic "match free" lighting 2. Stronger burner strength 3. Smooth profile on the counter 4. Space...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Exterior Reflectix

Yep. The roof needs a gentle pull to bring it down for clipping but works well.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Exterior Reflectix

Years ago I inserted Reflectix between the FWC thermal liner and the exterior vinyl as a test. (The 24" width fit perfectly at least in my 2018 Grandby Flatbed model.) I cut flaps for the windows and a slot for the shock cord to go through. Due to basic inertia that "test" Reflectix is still...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hallmark truck camper files for bankruptcy

Sad. I will say 47K in debt isn't much to file bankruptcy over plus 50K in assets is nada. But lots of behind the scenes legal stuff going on and I'm not an attorney!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West weBoost Drive mounting in our Fleet

I'm no Elon Musk fan, Vic. But I gotta ask, given the recent developments with Starlink RV (more availability, the 599.00 portable panel cost and the ability to switch on the 135.00 @ month fee only when needed) would you still go with your system? (The mercurial nature of Elon does concern me...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Building an Arctic - Cold Weather Pack

After doing a deep dive into Warm Company, Hobby Lobby and JoAnn I stumbled on "fusible" high loft fleece material. Basically you use a steam iron and the built in adhesive sticks it to the fabric. For those of us with an existing FWC Artic Liner I wondered if this could be used to increase...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Garmin Overlander ?

TIP: We bought the Overlander last year when it had a $200.00 rebate through REI with a 10% REI end-of-year rebate off the original $700.00 price we paid. Our end price was $430.00 plus taxes. BTW, we pretty much like the Overlander. Bet we're not GPS experts either.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Removing Bump Stops

One of the first things I did on all three of my FWC's (2012, 2015, 2018- do you see a pattern here?) is take the bump stops off completely. It will move your COG forward which is always a good thing!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bigger hand rail for steps

I just ordered this one to use with our Brophy scissor stairs (5 steps) for our Grandby FWC flatbed. You can buy the same size in aluminum on Amazon for 50 bucks less but we are talking our obsession here! It only comes out 15" so will need to lean to grab the handrail but I didn't want the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Winterizing.

    I just use a 6" extension on a socket wrench and (I believe) a 1 1/8" socket. Easy-peasy.

Denny Saunders, the Jackson Hole FWC dealer, told me to go for it! (You do need to be careful to not cross thread the plug since it is plastic.)

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Oven options

We've used a cast iron dutch over for years rafting down the Grand Canyon, etc. Carried it for a long time in our FWC too. Then switched to a folding Coleman but am now with the Omnia. Bear in mind the FWC stove (at least in the 2018 models) only puts out 6500 BTU's and the Omnia instructions...
