RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Backcountry/Roadside Camping Rules Change DVNP

Pogo: we have met the enemy and he is us. Just too many people doing what us old farts loved to do. We are seeing the USFS and NPS cure for the problem. First, restrict the dispersed camping. Second, require reservation for the dispersed camping. Third, install campgrounds to "improve" the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mosquito Science

And some people do not react to mosquito bites. My Mom was never bitten and I am the same with mosquitos. I asked my dermatologist why I do not get bitten? He said watch you do get bitten but do not react! Sure enough I do but at the most get a very small red spot and not itch. The wife and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West East Side Sierra Nevada - September 2022

Another fine Trip report. Below could only be written by a lucky man. Congrats on 39 years. "The Lady got her three wishes on how she wanted to celebrate our 39th wedding anniversary – a stone corral, a stone house, and the hike to Lone Pine Lake. For our fortieth, I expect something very...

The SJ Delta is the great secret, most people do not realize how much it has to offer. You were a 5 min walk to my home when you were at Garlic Brothers. Next time try breakfast at Bob's next to the Garlic Brothers, their hamburgers are also great. Bill

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lithium Trickle Charger

+2 to what Andrew said. I have the cut off switch and plan to use in the winter when not using my van. I have 200w of solar on the roof going through a controller set for lithium. I do have a Battery Tender brand charger lithium model I bought for my BMW motorcycle, factory lithium. Really do...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ford Transit Suspension

I have a 2020 350HD Transit. Stock suspension is good for the road, mine does have have the sway control for high winds. If you want to lift it for more clearance, easy if you have the RWD. If you have the AWD like I do you are limited to about 2 inches at this time. Van Compass looks to be the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Current Spike in Gas Prices

Enjoying the civil discussion of the profits of mega corporations. My 2 cents: There are other cell phones cheaper than Apple so I have a choice. Many feel the Apple is worth the extra money and some do not. All oil companies sell gas at close to the same price. IMO they are all the same and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West My 2009 Hawk needs some love: best battery?

+1 on Lithium, a DC-DC charger and MPPT controller. If you have a 100Ah AGM you have 50 useable Ahs. A Lithium will give you close to 100 useable Ahs, doubling your amp hours and with less weight. As had been said they are some Lithium batteries at a lower cost. Compare the cost of one lithium...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Something up there doesn’t like me

Wet a cloth with alcohol and let it sit on a spot for a few minutes, you must let it sit. Alcohol will soften the pitch and you can wipe it off. I ruined the paint on one car until I learned this.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Value 2003 Hawk

4 ft cab over was an option in 2003, 3 ft standard. May or may not affect the value. Prices have gone nuts, not sure how long they will last. In 2008 bought a 2001 Hawk for $3,500 great buy. Sold the 2001 in 2013 for $7,500 and bought a used 2013 Hawk shell for $10K. Built out the shell and sold...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Porta Potties?

We used the Thetford Curve Electric for years in our 2 Hawks. Simple easy to use and service. The electric part is AA batteries to run the pump. Trouble free for over 10 years. EDIT: Buy the mounting plate and you will not have to strap to keep the pot from turning over.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hawk on Tundra Help!

Just looked at your pictures. I had a 2013 Hawk on my 2005 Tundra less than 1/2 inch each side. Noticed you have a spray in bed liner. How thick is the liner, can you remove it where it is tight? Not a great picture but gives you an idea of how tight it is.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Alabama Hills BLM meeting (online)

Quick summary, Not much of a meeting IMO. Everything west of Movie Road is day use only, no camping. Camping only in marked areas. No more than 50 marked campsites. Number of sites will be reduced if BLM can not manage. Sounds like pit toilets will be added later. Permits will be...

I will sign on and listen to what is said. Sad to see so large an area for dispersed camping being closed. But as Pogo said "We have met the enemy and he is us". Any time a government agency says they are making "exciting changes" it is not a good thing IMO. Link for BLM information. Map of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West DC/DC Charger - Questions RE: SD Hawk

If you are sure you will be going to lithium in the future buy the 30A DC-DC. I like the ability to program the Victron to whatever you want. I have 2 Victron DC-DC 30A chargers. Two 270Ah BB batteries. #2 AWG feeding the chargers 150 amp circuit breaker on this line. I split the 2 AWG to 4 AWG...
