Sounds like a good deal on the truck for sure. Your going to enjoy the extra power of a v8 and a bit more truck.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Propane Compartment

Don't know about the regs on a liner but the non locking/vented access door I believe Is a federal DOT regulation. I remember back in the 1960-70s we had a big hard sided cabover and my dad having to show the tunnel/ferry operators the propane valve was off and the door was vented and not...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Propane Compartment

Has anyone here enlarged/converted the horizontal propane tank compartment to accommodate a standard vertical 20lb tank? f so, where did you purchase the door and did you buy or fabricate the plastic liner. I want to seal the compartment from the inside of the camper, so the liner or equivalent...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Should I let dry before I store

I would dry them and/or spray with WD40(or any moisture displacing spray) to avoid rusting them. As a plus the WD40 will reduce friction when raising or lowering in the future.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 4wc roof construction

There were some pics and a discussion on FWC or the ATC threads in the past. Last time I saw them was a couple years back and I can't say whether they were new post or someone retrieved them from a earlier post. You might do a search or one of the mods, might be able to locate them.

My spotting scope came with a short tripod for setting up on the shooting bench but i mount it on an old Gitzu camera tripod for star gazing.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Telescopes

I use my spotting scope when we are on the road, it works well (mostly checking out the moon)and it's very compact. You'll get performance based on dollars spent, bigger, better lenses cost more but you'll get better light transmission for viewing distant planets. I use a old telescope at home I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West First Gen tundra airbags and airbag spacers (articulation)

Installed super springs on my 06 Access Cab to carry my Hawk around full time for 3 years. While that worked OK, if I had to do it over(build up a 1/2 ton truck) I would replace the entire spring pack. By the way, the camper is now full time on a F250 which is the best set up of all(except maybe...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Do you use water tank for drinking water?

We drink from ours. I fill up before leaving home as we have good quality water(tastes good too). Much prefer it to some places on the road that have a sulphur smell or iron flavor to the water. As it gets low I fill up if we find good water some where. I always use a charcoal filter when...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Help me estimate weight, Callen Camper

I have a 6.5' cab over that's all aluminum and not finished out inside and much more tapered(less boxy) that's about 250Lbs . So I can tell you 300 lbs is not correct, especially if the frame is steel.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West First gen Tundra and FWC questions

I wouldn't hesitate to get one with 100-150k miles if it was cared for(service records are a plus) and not used commercially. My 06 access cab which carried the Hawk for 3 years is still my daily driver with 153K on it. It's the 4.0 six but it's my understanding the tranny is the same as the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West east coast 4wc owners ?

The short answer is yes, you can get condensation while just sitting closed up. If you live in a humid area like me(gulf coast Texas) the camper has humid air in it and when you get temp changes it will happen. I used damp rid for a long time to keep mildew at bay but have since changed to a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Firestone destination XT 35x12.5R18

If you want to stick with Toyos check online: Tire Rack.com or similar company. I run Cooper ATPs, can't speak for their snow performance but they are very good in wet conditions, decent in light mud(not a aggressive mud tread) and pretty quiet on the road.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Outfitter Caribou Lite 8 on F150 ?

The listed camper weight is dry weight(empty) which means if you're planning on using the water tank, then you be over the trucks payload, forget people and other gear. So you need to heavily mod your current truck or replace with a 3/4 or 1 ton. I up graded from a 1/2 with beefed up rear...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West pop up truck camper tires, 6 ply, 8 ply or 10

I am happy with Cooper ATPs(Es) but there are lots of other very good choices out there. Besides the above mentioned pluses to an E rated tire, you'll find a much bigger selection(sizes and brands) of E rated tires vs D rated. That could also translate into being easier to find a replacement...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ice Chests?

My 2 primary (similar sized) coolers are; Rtic 45qt and a igloo ultra cold 50qt(out of production now). Rtic will hold 20 lbs crushed ice for 4+ days in 90+ degree weather. The Igloo will hold 20 lbs of crushed ice in the same temps for 3+ days. Rtic is heavy and holds about 20% less...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West accident, now what?

Looks like the camper jack bracket was hit by something(maybe the other trucks mirror). I would check out the integrity of the bracket before using it, mounting screws might be pulled out of the frame. I don't think the water tank would damage the camper that high up. If it was the other trucks...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Truck Help, Diesel Necessary?

I started with my Hawk full time on a 1st gen Tundra 4.0 V-6 motor(drove it 3 years). Now on a F250 4x4 6.2 gasser. Much better handling and braking is very good. Lost about 1 mpg(little 6 cyl was working hard), I gladly accept that loss of mileage for what I gained. I looked at 3/4 ton diesels...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New truck camper company based on the Tacoma

I have to agree with Kolockum, not enough truck there, especially that 3.5L 6cyl. motor. Even with the optional regearing I believe power will be lacking.
