RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1975 FWC My New Project and First Camper

Camper does look very good for its age. I just got through replacing the bed board on my 2005 Hawk. Had to install new one in two pieces or remove most of the interior. Be sure to seal the end grain not just the top and bottom surfaces of the new replacement. Good luck, enjoy.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New F150 - dead battery?

After driving let sit for a couple hrs then check voltage. Voltage should be 12.6-12.8, if not get them to replace that battery if there is a warranty.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Battery Life Expectancy?

My last AGM died at approx 5 yrs., mainly because the solar controller failed and fried it. New one is almost 4 years and I'm noticing the voltage falling off quicker as it ages, even though my average daily amp draw is not changing on our trips, charging cell phone, led lights and fridge fan...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Horizontal Propane Tank replacement

Last year I had my horizontal tank valve replaced when the tank was certified. Cost about $90 and took almost a month since the valve is not stocked locally and the shop dragged their feet. After all that, I wish I had just purchased a new tank. Another alternative is what Vic Harder did and...

It will take a couple trips to figure out what you really need/use, you need to review what you use and didn't use after each trip and adjust inventory. Break it down on a few spread sheets(cooking, safety, truck, camper, toys, etc) if you want. The're are a few extra things i carry, like a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper propane for outdoor stove?

If you decide to carry one pound bottles get some of the brass caps(amazon) to seal them as they are prone to leaking. I've had them leak enough to trip the propane alarm in the camper and had one just last weekend that leaked severely when i remove the stove hose assembly.

Ditto on the baltic birch. I was able to match the color(stain). Grain is different but acceptable(at least to me) since the color matches.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What should I look at?

I had a Hawk on a 1st gen. 06 Tundra with the 4.0 six 3.9 diff for 3 years. Basically the same motor/tranny/brake set up as the Tacos of that era. I will tell you the power was barely adequate here in Texas(mostly flat and low hills) but when in the mountains, power is lacking. Braking was ok...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Water in a Shell

2 plastic wash tubs, one for washing, other for sterilizing with hot water. If purchasing water jugs , consider a couple smaller sizes 2.5 - 3 gallon in addition to the larger 5-6 gallon. You'll appreciate it when you have to refill and carry back to the camper for a long distance, One 3 gallon...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dodge Ram 1500 Classic w/3.6L Pentastar V6 w/Truck Camper Performance Question

I carried a hawk on a first gen Tundra with the 4.0 six for 3 years. I now have it on a F250 with the 6.2 gas motor. Much better setup and no appreciable difference(less than 1 mpg) in fuel mileage. Smaller motors work harder. F150 with payload package will work if you keep gear to a minimum.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Advice re: Tying Down to Tacoma

The idea behind having the tie downs point towards each other is to hold the camper in place, so there is no movement, not forward and not rearward. If you have a constant forward load the camper will be pulled into the front of the bed which can/will damage the camper skin and possibly the frame.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Front hitch to carry motorcycle

I carry 2 mountain bikes on a modified bike rack mounted to the brush guard. works very well. Headlights shine through the spokes with no appreciable degradation in the amount of light that hits the road. Total weight(bikes and bike rack) is probably around 90-100 lbs.and the brush guard is over...

Don't know if mine is factory or not as I am not the original owner. I have noticed the same fall off in cooling over the 6 we've owned it. Couldn't find anyone to work on the old unit, although one shop said they would check it out for their base fee of $105/hr plus freon/parts costs. I did...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2016 F-250 Truck to camper wiring

Yes, bought the 5th wheel harness from Etrailer. Got the one with the matching plug. My camper originally had a 3 pin plug also. I cut it off and connected the 3 wires to the appropriate pins on the 7 pin. Everything plugged right up. You will need a hole saw to punch the mounting hole inside...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2016 F-250 Truck to camper wiring

all frame/chassis grounds should be common to each other(tied together), you can check with a meter if in doubt. You want to be sure that the ground is present all the time not just with ignition on or in run position as some are now switched. Green wire is probably 12v + for running lights. I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Looking for advice - Getting old, no more tents!

F150 with a suspension upgrade and E rated tires will do the job. I hauled my hawk around for 3 years with a 1st gen Tundra(4.0 six) for 3 years before moving up to a F250. I think moving up to a full size truck is the smart move. See if you can find/get a 150 with the factory HD payload option...

The only sure way to know is to remove the cabinet or fridge on the inside or talk with someone that has the same yr/model and they have measurements avail.. I would not count on the construction spacing being the same on both sides unless FWC can confirm.

I have had the same problem in the past. Corrective actions were; remove door and install new rope chalk all around(old chalk had shrunk due to age). As mentioned by Larryqp, a fan to help carry heat away from the back of the fridge will help.
