If the battery is self heating, it will have a temp. sensor inside the battery. Below a threshold temp. which I think is 41F for the Renogy, the current going into the battery (either from solar, DCDC, IOTA, Etc.) will be used to power the internal heating pads, not charge the battery. Once the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West From propane to diesel, a heater installation

Step 1 was to remove the Attwood/Dometic heater. After removing the plastic cover inside the camper and the 2x brackets mounted to the front of the heater, remove the exterior cover. You'll have to remove the black plastic surround before the heater will come out. To do that, you must bend the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West From propane to diesel, a heater installation

Decided to swap out the propane heater for a cheap Chinese diesel heater. To see a list of parts I purchased, see my post at https://www.wanderthewest.com/forum/topic/25331-heating-options-for-fwc-fleet-high-elevation-winter/ In addition to those items, I also purchased... 10L HDPE Jerrycan...

https://www.rostra.com/toyota-tundra-tailgate-backup-camera-relocation-kits.php The website itself is horrible. I had to email their customer service to place my order, but you can get part #s from the link above. The kits also seemed available on eBay, but who knows what quality.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Heating Options for FWC Fleet High Elevation Winter

Been recovering from 2 knee surgeries, I've had A LOT of time to research. Hopefully I can save anyone looking to install a diesel heater some time. Full disclosure, I haven't installed mine yet, but the parts arrived today. Right now my plan is to remove the propane heater and instal the...

I would go with a diesel heater. There's endless information on them on forums, Facebook groups, and Youtube. A lot of people have gone with the cheaper Chinese Diesel heaters, you can get them on Ebay, Amazon, Ali Express, and others. I just ordered one on Amazon to replace my stock propane...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Diesel Heater in Your Camper?

Wango, At these temps, was the 4kw unit running on low most of the time? I'm trying to find the appropriate size for my Hawk. I've seen other posts saying 2kw is good for a FWC as it allows the furnace to run hot which is better for clean combustion. Any opinions on that?

photohc, After having the diesel heater for a few seasons, can you give us any info on the difference in winter camping? Are you able to maintain 40-50-ish degrees in the camper in cold climates without waking up to massive amounts on condensation? How often is the heater cycling on and off in...

Where did you actually purchase the Rostra kit from? I can't seem to find a way to make a purchase on their website. Also did you end up using the self-tapping screws? Sounds like there may be some other ways to attach the loom clamps to the camper?

Is 30a really not enough to go from trucks alternator to the the Campers batteries? If 30A isn't enough, is 50A guaranteed to be?

Good pint Vic, that would work if I were confident that I could do my whole trip on a single charge for sure. Unfortunately I'm pretty OCD and I do find myself constantly checking my SOC, even when I know I'll be good. Boys and their toys eh?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Shunt style monitor w/ Self Heating LiFePO4

Haven't been able to track down an answer to this, but I'm sure it's come up for some folks... Assuming cold temps, and the self-heater inside the battery is required before the battery starts charging, some of the current that passes through the shunt (counted as % charge added) would actually...

Super clean! Well done! I've been putting this project off for almost 2 years, I think you've inspired me to go for it. Would there have been enough room for you to mount the camera above the door, below the roof? Im thinking If I can do that I'll be able to see over my spare tire and bike...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Should I avoid a Fleet/Tacoma combo because of overweight?

I don't think anyone will recommend being over weight, that being said, my roommate has a Kimbo on his 3rd gen Tacoma. He's over weight and hasn't had any controllability or breaking issues. He had to re-gear and add airbags but he loves the set up. A co-worker of mine has a Fleet on a 3rd gen...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Isotherm refrigerator racks sliding forward

OP, I had the same issue, If you pull the shelves out, you're able to bend the side pieces of the rack outward slightly. This seemed to put enough outward pressure on the walls of the fridge that they hold in place much more securely.
