RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2023 Hawk furnace problem.

OP, I had this issue as well, no furnace when camping at 15 degrees F. BBrrrrrrrrr. I thought trimming the ducting was enough, but it wasn't. I also had to remove the air deflector, the round spinning center piece of the furnace face that allows you to change the angle the air is blown...

From the FWC website.... The roof is designed to withstand up to 1,000 lbs. of an evenly distributed snow load. When carrying luggage, coolers, kayaks, canoes, etc. on the roof, we recommend keeping the total gear weight around 100 lbs. or less. The less gear that is on the roof, the easier it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mounting things on exterior of FWC

Dessmo, These look great! I'd like to do something similar. The bolts go through to the inside of the camper? Were you able to locate the aluminum beams? Any more pictures? What did you use for sealant on the outside? Thank!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Are load range E tires really needed for camper?

I would use a load calculator for the specific size/specs of your tire. You certainly don't want K02s with 70+ psi in them. My K02's have a maximum pressure of 65PSI written on the sidewall. Using a load calculator I derived 55psi front 60psi rear (w/camper). 325/65/r18 BFG k02, E rated...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Casters to move Camper

I would avoid putting casters on all 4 corners. When rolling mine in and out of the garage she tends to want to get all sorts of sideways. Makes it difficult to move with one person. I wish I had done fixed wheels on one side and casters on the other, like a shopping cart.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Spare Tire Swing + 1up + Hawk

I have a rigd Ultraswing on my F-350 with HAWK. I'd say its good not great. It's extremely functional, but with the spare tire (35in E rated) and bike rack with two bikes, its quite a lot of weight and the end of the bike rack does turn into a bit of a diving board. I just take it easy on bumps...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Winter Camping Tips

Cblesser, Winter camping is incredible, super pumped for you! I use my FWC mostly in the winter with A LOT of lessons learned over 150+ nights in the cold. I can't agree hard enough with the recommendation to winterize your water system and use jugs. You can also have one dedicated gray water...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West furnace won't light at elevation and cold

I had the same issue, removing the ducting only worked somewhat. The ultimate fix for me was to simply remove the plastic disk on the very front of the furnace that swivels and diverts air to the sides. Simple to do and my furnace works 4.0 at 8,500 feet where I usually camp in the winter. Hope...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West No Hot Water For Showering

Howdy, Ran into an issue in the woods this past weekend. 2019 Hawk with hot water heater. The heater was working 4.0 all weekend, had hot water at the sink with no issues, no leaks, good pressure hot and cold. The water pressure at the shower head outside was descent and plenty to take a...

Beating the drum on ventilation while sleeping. I sleep in 15-20 degree F all winter. Front vent open, rear powered vent on lowest setting blowing air out. Window by my head cracked. 0 degree sleeping bag and a down blanket keeps me toasty and I rarely wake up with condensation. Ear plugs...

I have a 2014 F-350 with Hawk, sits the same way as yours does in the bed with more distance from the bed rail to the camper in the front than rear. Ive checked the bed and underside of the camper and everything seems even. I thought it was weird at first but it didn't seem to be hurting...

Great idea ckent, would love to see what you come up with! This could also act as exterior storm windows. I get a lot of snow stuck in between the mesh screen layer and the clear window layer during windy snow storms which then melts and can lead to water getting inside. One of my biggest...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Heating at Altitude

+1 for air flow being restricted. I camp every weekend at 8500 feet have had nothing but issues. All issues pointed me towards a bad sail switch. After replacing 2 sail switches I deduced that was not the issue. The furnace works fine at home at 4000 feet, but up in the mountains it just wont...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rookie FWC Owner Looking for Insurance Tips

I would recommend having a separate policy so the camper is covered for damage etc. regardless of if its on the truck or not, crazy things can happen. For how much the campers cost the insurance is relatively inexpensive. Hard to put a price on peace of mind IMHO. Congrats on your purchase!
