RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What Brand is the 160 watt Solar Panel FWC Provides?

FWC gave me one in the little goodie bag they gave me along with the different manuals, hose adapters and blow out plug. FWC may be able to get one for you if you give them a ring. Good luck!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Couple things I noticed at 5 degrees F.

I cut reflectix about 1/8-1/4 inch larger than the windows, its the perfect thickness to seat itself inside the window frame and provides a nice seal. I've been using this method successfully for two winters and it helps enormously. I also have recently added reflectix down lower, covering the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Dimmable LED light removal

I ordered some photography light filter film from Amazon and simply taped it over the lights. Low cost and low tech fix. Not the cleanest but it gets the job done.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What Brand is the 160 watt Solar Panel FWC Provides?

Question for anyone with the Overland Solar Semi-Flex 160W panel. I'm installing my own and attempting to recreate the manner by which FWC attaches them to the Yakima tracks. Z-bar for the long ends of the panel using stainless nuts/washers/bolts through the grommets already on the panel as well...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Wiring - No Factory Controller

Follow on question. I've read as many Solar posts on here as I can as well as studied many wiring diagrams (thanks to all who provide them btw!). I just ordered a Victron MPPT 100/20 Smart Solar Charge Controller. My camper is new-ish and does have the black/white "load" wires pre-wired...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Best Cold Weather Tips

Adding my $0.02 here after 4 weekends in a row winter camping! After waking up to a rainforest on the first go-around I've finally got a system that has all but eliminated my condensation issues. Spoiler alert, it's what everyone else has suggested. Here are my new rules to live by... 1...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Help Me Make My Hawk a Cozy Ski House

Hi all, Wondering if anyone has painted the internal plastic supports of their FWC. Staring at those two black pieces of plastic just doesn't give me the cozy vibe I'm looking for in my new ski chalet. What type of paint would adhere best to the plastic and be able to handle the rather large...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Siding Choice

The flat siding looks so much better IMHO. It was worth the extra $$ for me! If you're already spending big $$ on a camper, might as well enjoy the aesthetic as well!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 4AWG from the factory?

Update to close this thread... Mule Expedition Outfitters ended up running 4AWG wire for me. They also placed a solenoid on the positive wire from the truck battery that I'm able to control via up fitter switch so I can chose when the camper is gets power. The factory battery separator in the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New 2020 Hawk surprise!

Just picked up my new 2020 Hawk. To my surprise it came with a digital voltage meter! I still plan on adding a proper battery monitor but this is helpful until I get it installed. Also... are fully charged AGM batteries supposed to read 13.4 volts??

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 4AWG from the factory?

Did you just tie the engine sense line right into the positive feed line? I know my 2014 F-350 has a "computer controlled" alternator, but it seems that it is always putting out 13.75 volts and then if it senses it needs it can bump it up to 14.something. Sounds like if the least it's going to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 4AWG from the factory?

After looking at several models' instruction manuals, it seems that for a >10ft run for a 30Amp system, 6-8AWG is recommended. Is it dangerous to use 10AWG or are you just forfeiting some efficiency, not running the risk of overheating, damage, fire, etc.?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 4AWG from the factory?

Thanks for the replies. Doing a quick search of the Victron Orion Instruction Manual, it looks like the lightest gauge wires the recommend is 5AWG from the truck battery to the unit itself. I think that I'm not interpreting something correctly. You're saying I should be able to have them...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 4AWG from the factory?

Trying to work smarter not harder... Picking up a new Hawk in December to be put on my 2014 F-350. Specced with a single 79Ah AGM battery and "pre-wired" for solar (no charge controller installed). I plan on adding a second 79Ah battery right away and eventually solar. I'll be doing a lot of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Batteries

When running two 6V batteries you must connect them in series vice parallel. When two batteries are connected in series you do not add the ah, however you do add the voltage. Therefore 2x 6V 220ah batteries, wired in series, will yield you a 12v battery bank with 220ah. You may be able to take...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper dolly height.

Hi guys, newbie here waiting for my Hawk to arrive... Any one have an idea of how tall the whole unit is when popped-up and sitting on a low dolly, I realize it won't be exactly the same heigh as my setup but I'm just looking for a ballpark figure. Right now I only have 85 in. of clearance from...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper Dolly

Resurrecting an old thread.... Can anyone using a dolly tell me the minimum height the dolly must be in order to get about 2 in. of clearance from the bottom of the jack stands to the floor. My garage door motor hangs quite low (I'll attempt to raise it) so I need the camper to be as low as...
