RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Behold! The Air Spring Nightmare! (2008 Ram 1500 4x4)

Ahh I really hate telling you this but.... Six years ago I put a loaded new Hawk on new 2500HD Chevy and drove away without the need for any mods whatsoever. Its been a great handling combo with no issues. I sincerely believe our "light weight" campers deserve a 3/4 ton platform. In your...

I would. My FF is within a inch or two of my garage door header so any increase in height would be a no go.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper Cover

Luckily mine fits in my garage. My motorcycle trailer doesn't and for the past 10 or so years I just cover it with a 12 x16 silver plastic tarp from HF for under $20. They seem to last 2 or 3 years. Looks a little ghetto but does the job.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West I want a simple pop up. Is it better to buy or build.

Then there is resale value. Used FWC campers are popular and sell quickly at a premium price point. Home built....not so much.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Hawk Battery Storage Setting

An easy way to monitor what is going on with your charging system is use a voltage gauge that plugs into your trucks cigarette lighter (that has a hot lead). I simply look through the window to see what voltage the truck is getting from the solar or camper or battery tender. Also, if I use...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Hawk Battery Storage Setting

My Hawk when plugged in also charges my truck battery. No need for a separate Battery Tender for the truck. Note: I did ditch the Sure Power junk battery separator for the Blue Sea model.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West One Last Attempt: Has anyone used their FWC water system in below freezing temps?

On a week long Colorado elk hunting trip I proved the outside spigot drain is the first to go. After a night long blizzard and temps in the single digits the drain line/valve was frozen solid. Water inside the camper was okay. Not knowing what was frozen and where, I used the water pump and...

As for barrel length they require 457 mm which equals 17.99213 inches. Several years ago I crossed with my Rem 870 police pump with a 18" barrel and an extended tube with no issues. Make sure your paperwork is in order. On edit found this on the RCMP link above: "There is no maximum magazine...

I'll answer my own question for future reference if anyone is interested. Sent an email to the factory and received this: "The solar panels are mounted to an aluminum Z bar, then mounted to either the roof directly or, the Yakima tracks. A direct install to the roof will have the solar panel...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ready to join the roof top solar club but.....

I'm going to go with the factory Zamp setup but my concern is roof top clearance into my garage. Could anyone with factory 160w give me an idea of the height of the panel as installed on the camper roof? I do not have the Yakima tracks. Looks like I have about 3 3/4" clearance from the camper...

I have owned FWC continuously since 1983 and have sold three (that I know of) and I'm still waiting for my commission and/or free beer. I take that back....at ExpoWest they did take great care of their customers. Excellent company.

I am not aware of any national rating group but google is your friend if you are interested in a particular area or trail. As an example is the Red Cone and Webster Pass trail here in Colorado. I have ridden it on a dirt bike, in a jeep and recently in my truck and Hawk. An example of some of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Personal FWC Tour?

I wouldn't do it. Your camper would be your rear bumper. Is your truck bed the mini 5 or so footer? In any case the center of gravity would be behind your rear tires...a problem especially on a 1/2 ton truck. A Grandby shell would be a rare find in any case. Lastly it would look weird. :)
