RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Revisiting heavy duty trucks

When GM lists payload they assume all seat belts are in use at 150 pounds each. That could subtract as much as 750 pounds from the camper capacity. The only way to get the correct answer is a trip to the scales and a look at your vehicles max GVWR. As an example my Chevy has a GVWR of 9500...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Revisiting heavy duty trucks

1: No need for a 1 ton for a FWC. My Chevy HD2500 with stock suspension handles my 2,000 lb loaded Hawk great and at the scales I am 700 pounds under max payload. You mentioned the possibility of heavier campers though so I would definitely go 1 ton. 2: Gas or diesel....a can of worms...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Overweight: Your perspective

Might consider a toy if they made a 3/4 ton truck. But probably wouldn't. I have had three 3/4 ton Chevys and have had excellent service from them under some extreme conditions and none of the issues you mention. It seems the new taco was rated worse or much worse for reliability by CR and there...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Over Cab Clearance

Was curious what my clearance was.....3 1/2" and my "ramp" was the switchbacks on Redcone Mt/Webster Pass CO. No issues and yes the frames are pretty stiff on the 3/4 tons. If you look at the body panel lines they are straight.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West wind noise while driving with truck camper?

My 2012 2500HD crew cab is very quiet. The early club cabs with the suicide doors did have problems with wind noise and is why they now have a center post conventional design.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 25,000+TAX

42 large will get you a very nice special edition Woolrich flatbed Hawk.... Base price on a fleet is just under $18 and nicely equipped 3/4 ton diesel crew cabs can easily hit $75. I say go for it....interest rates are low. :)

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West wind noise while driving with truck camper?

My 2012 Chevy 2500 crew cab and Hawk combo are a pleasure on the road. With the radio off, the most annoying sound is the snoring of the dog. Around 85 the engine starts to make it's presence known.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Truck Length constraints?

According to my GM dealer friend by far the most popular and best resale combo is the crew cab standard bed (6 1/2'). As far as everyday use a crew cab long box wouldn't even fit on my driveway let alone my garage. I knew I had to have a crew and I'm happy I went with the standard bed and a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Propane Usage

Well perhaps I have the record for propane usage. Five years of fairly heavy camper use and I never refilled either of my tanks. My secret, I guess, is I only cook inside if forced to and I never run the furnace while sleeping. If in a campground I have an electric heater. Could have saved a...
