Unfortunately water damage and rot is very common on those big wood framed campers. Not just AF either, Lance seems to be especially well represented. Go here for a lifetime of reading on the horror stories and repairs: RV.net truck campers I hope yours is just a minor issue.

Regarding the upper bed in the non-cabover units, it seems to be the same size as in the newer units, but with a slightly lower ceiling and more skimpy cushions? Sorry, I can't be of much help with all the various changes they have made over the years. I had that 83 Granby for over 20 years...

A bigger question is what kind of truck do you have as older Four Wheel Campers were typically wider and might not fit a newer truck. See this fitment list I am 6'3"plus and in my old 83 Granby I would just kinda graze the roof, but it really wasn't a issue. If you have a newer truck though it...

Someone posted up this shower a while back and I think I'm just going to go this route. Let solar work on the sunny days, warm some water on the stove and pour it in on the others. Few pumps and you're showering w/o trying to rig up a pump/plumbing...

Welcome Newguy, I just ordered a Dee Zee rubber bed mat from Amazon for $69, free shipping, and no sales tax. I will be putting the mat on top of a Line-X over the rail spray in. All I need now is for my ordered truck and camper to arrive!

Don't know a thing about toyotas, but with a 1000 pound loaded camper on the back, the last thing I would do is cantilever a 300 pound bike and mount off the rear end. I wouldn't do that with my 3/4 ton. Plus it will block access to the camper and ruin your departure angle. Pick up Harbor...

For others ordering the Fantastic Fan, I ordered my FF 6600R 14 speed from FWC for $130 over the cost of the regular FF. Less than the price of the upgrade kit from FF and I don't have to install it. I like the "euro" interior but at that price no way. I went with my "hideous" animal interior...

I was going to order my Hawk with the plain tan interior, but the new FWC dealer here in Denver made a good point in that the "animal print" hides stains, dog hair etc. Made sense so I'm going animal. Did you notice the tan old school pop up fabric? I fell for the smooth sales talk, beware.

Okay, sounds like everybody thus far has a separate/additional coverage for the camper. Is this through your auto insurance company? On mine, I pick a value of the camper and it is added to the truck policy. Not a separate policy. (Auto Owners Insurance)
