RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Propane Capacity?

I'll give this a try. I do tend to fling the valve open as quickly as I can. I don't think it was the cold. It was 40 F at the worst. The interesting thing is that it worked fine for about 20 minutes.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Propane Capacity?

My Raven shell has two tweener propane cylinders (smaller than 20 lb classic grill tank and larger than the 5 lb-er). I *think* they're 10 pound Manchester cylinders. They are stamped with 14.4 Tare Weight. I weighed them full and they come up with just about 10 pounds more than the tare weight...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Not sure about all terrain campers

What model are you looking at and what weight are they quoting? I can't fathom that they are grossly different than a FWC in weight for a similarly equipped rig. Their heritage is FWC after all. My Raven shell with heater and thermopack spec'd out at 903 lbs. As far as ATC per se is concerned...

I have a Raven slide and no garage. There’s no doubt that my next rig will be a flatbed Hawk.

I’ve read a little more about these. Webasto and Espar both make them in gas and diesel. Propex makes an exterior venting low condensation propane/butane version too. All three are well respected and all three have strengths and weaknesses. The international crowd gravitates away from Propex...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West WTB - Four Wheel Camper Hawk Shell

Ours is set up with furnace only and benches. Some various accoutrements were added (shelves, drawers, etc.). Long story short, if you find a stripped one like ours, in our experience a portable, single burner Iwatani butane burner has been really adequate. Good luck in the quest!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Repeater freqs in Death Valley?

I did that search, but still didn't find a clear answer. many carry both, but I couldn't find a "what if I activate both" scenario. The best I could find was on HikingGuy where he has GEOS programmed to send a message with his inreach that says he activated his PLB. Did you find anything more clear?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Repeater freqs in Death Valley?

Let’s hope I’m never faced with that! In retrospect, I probably would just activate the PLB and use the InReach to coordinate with friends. The PLB is a double edged sword though. Although the Iridium systems are solid, the PLB is purportedly the most reliable. The biggest thing is that there’s...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Repeater freqs in Death Valley?

No, it was a failure of the Iridium SOS system to initiate rescue. He pressed the SOS and it initiated contact with only one of his personal contacts and did not mobilize SNR through the Iridium network. It was his friend who got the signal that initiated a rescue outside of the InReach network...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New tires needed. 3 snowflake rated is a must 5 choices in my list.

This is not a comparison of the Cooper to dedicated snows, but the Falken Wildpeak. I'm making what I think is a fair assumption that they are similar to the AT3 in the snow. We are also a skiing family with a son who grew up racing. We always have run dedicated snows on our other vehicles. We...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Repeater freqs in Death Valley?

I didn't choose one over the other. I view them as a little different and carry both. I decided that after watching Adam Greentree's account of an InReach SOS failure and then subsequently reading about others. I was also swayed by the Outdoor Gear Review article that ranked the InReach as their...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Repeater freqs in Death Valley?

I would agree, the key here being "communication." They only thing better would be an Iridium phone, because the communication would be verbal, instantaneous and not text based. PLBs run on the COSPAS-SARSAT system which is the most reliable SOS system there is. It's the system used by ships...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Where Do You Carry "Stuff"?

So between the front of the camper and the cab where the windows are? What keeps it in place other than gravity? Also, I'm not sure I'm following when you refer to to "right on top of the camper front bumpers when the camper in on the truck and has a hinged top lid that locks." Help. I'm...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Best Cold Weather Tips

The metal frames of the windows conduct a significant amount energy themselves. In my environment that's not a huge deal, but if I was dealing with really cold weather, I'd be inclined to position the board on top of the frame, overlapping enough to place a foam weather seal all the way around...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Where Do You Carry "Stuff"?

We've just been tucking stuff in there with the seats folded up. We have an ActionPacker that we strap in behind the "60" seat that has a floor jack, compressor, recovery strap, tools, etc. We use the rear seats occasionally though so I don't want to pull them. I'm really looking for places to...

I ended up choosing Reflectix even after reading all the controversy over its R value, because I didn't want to schlep foam dust shedding sheets around. I simply wanted something that was "good enough." I'm convinced that some of the hand wringing over Reflectix is misplaced. Even if we assume...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Best Cold Weather Tips

OMG...sub 20, NOT sub-minus-20. Gulp! I did spend several nights this year before the mods though in the same range and they made a BIG difference. I think I could do colder, but the heater would run non-stop and I'd need a better bag. As good as these things are, well insulated would...
