Great info Jack, Yes, Stevens Camp is on the list provided the conditions are favorable and the milkshakes at Fields Station are a priority. I haven't eaten at the French Glen Hotel, might have to check that out too!

Thanks for the replies! Even though I grew up in Idaho I had completely forgotten to factor in hunting season PaulT! I appreciate the itch warning about the soldier Meadows Hot Springs Dadocut, we'll keep that in mind, and the Barrel Springs Back Country Byway may need checking out! /2

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Soldier Meadows NV north to the Steens Mtns mid Oct.

What might someone anticipate for weather conditions from Cedarville over to Massacre Ranch, down to High Rock Canyon and Soldier Meadows then up through Virgin Valley and on to The Steens Mtns in mid Oct? Beyond "anything is possible", and hoping for the best but preparing for the worst, is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Annular Solar Eclipse and Abert Rim Overlook

My weather app is showing 100% cloud cover for Abert Rim and our back up sites, oh well.... Maybe things will improve as the day draws closer!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Critter Cam for outside the camper at night?

Follow up. Not surprisingly I didn't find the critter cam of my dreams and the game camera option may have worked, however.... .... our 3 night neighbor in our campsite in the Slough Creek Campground near the Lamar Valley felt compelled to leave the very bright exterior lights on his camper on...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Critter Cam for outside the camper at night?

I guess the criteria would be battery operated cameras with motion detection and night vison connected wirelessly to a 12V DVR that has a monitor for viewing live and recorded footage. Ideally you could connect multiple cameras, ether with suction cups or magnets to the vehicle or placed on...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Critter Cam for outside the camper at night?

That's cool, thanks, and close to what I envisioned except for needing to be hard wired, and it doesn't have motion sensors and the ability to record segments for later viewing. Also I want to avoid drilling any holes in the camper if at all possible. I know, not much to ask....

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Critter Cam for outside the camper at night?

That's the current plan, but I was hoping there might be an option closer to a camera or cameras on the outside and a monitor inside, kind of like looking out the window without having to look out the window, just glance over at the monitor and see what's going on outside without opening the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Critter Cam for outside the camper at night?

That's what I figured Frank, not only there but most of the out of the way places we visit. It would be fun to see what snoops around the truck after we turn in. It seemed like a simple thing, some battery powered cameras that attach to the outside and Bluetooth images to a DVR in the camper...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Critter Cam for outside the camper at night?

Headed to Yellowstone and thought it would be interesting to see what critters wander by the camper in the night. Anyone have a recommendation for a wireless system that doesn't require WIFI, cellular or internet? I see game camera 4 packs for sale, probably the least expensive option, but...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Annular Solar Eclipse and Abert Rim Overlook

Thanks for all of the info Marysmith. If the weather looks sketchy, cloudy or even snow, we are lining up a couple of alternate sites further east in Nevada. And, bottom line, in the pop up camper, it can always be a balmy 55 degrees! Mapping this with Google initially shows a route off 395...

That's a bit out of the way for us but thanks for the suggestion. Never know when another adventure may take us in that direction!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Annular Solar Eclipse and Abert Rim Overlook

I am trying to convince my traveling buddies that they need some sort of satellite messaging device so we can reliably meet up in the back country. They seem to believe that occasional cell coverage can get them by but, I'm a "wing it" kind of traveler and rarely know where I'll be...

We plan on getting there the night before for that very reason! Thanks for the reassurance Monty, it was your wonderful account of the area that prompted me to consider it for the eclipse.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Annular Solar Eclipse and Abert Rim Overlook

I'm considering meeting some friends at or near the Abert Rim Overlook to view the Annular Solar Eclipse this coming Oct 14th. It's practically dead center on the path. Maybe after the viewing drop down the east side to Plush and then over to check out The Glass House. Having never been there I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Road Conditions - North Pass Death Valley

I'm guessing you probably already know what an exceptionally rough winter this has been for travel to Saline Valley, what with people stranded at the springs for weeks unable to get out and multiple helicopter rescues of folks whos vehicles got stuck in snow on the passes. A post from a day or...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Death Valley National Park - February 2023

Some more interesting info about Fossil Falls and the floods that created them. It explains how granite sediment from the Sierra in the flood water was able to erode the softer basalt of Fossil Falls but does not answer the question of why we don't see similar erosion scars else where. Was this...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Road Conditions - North Pass Death Valley

Guess at this point would be all you can hope for. With that road it's always best to hope for good but prepare for the worst. Conditions can go from mild to wild depending on what weather just moved through in the past hours or days. You may get into the valley one day but not be able to get...
