I consider this as more of a failsafe backup system, when you are away from the vehicle and don't have the heater going, like that night you are tired of being out in the cold and you need a shower so you grab a motel room and the truck spends a bone chilling night out in the parking lot...

I wanted to follow up on my question about water pipes freezing. Based on all of the comments I figured it wasn't a big risk factor in my situation, the simple solution would be to drain the system and use jugs if I was going to be in a very cold environment, however I couldn't let it go without...

I'm thinking an alien lander, kinda like the one we sent to Mars that had the three petals that folded out, but then again maybe it's just a weather balloon or swamp gas. There may be snow at that altitude now but I'm hoping to check it out before the military carts it off to Area 51. :)

Dedackera Canyon is between Steele Pass and Eureka dunes and can be a challenge to negotiate but I often prefer it to North or South pass, less white knuckle washboard surfing, dust and getting passed by folks in a big hurry and more calm solitude and beautiful views, but it's definitely a 4x4...

Kinda along the lines of something interesting to go check out, does anyone know what this is? 37.0788530, -118.0095740 Forgive me if I screwed this up, I’m not sure how to post map coordinates, these are the coordinates of something I spotted on Google Maps and I was thinking about seeing if I...

No worries, I know you can’t collect in the park and wouldn’t consider it, it’s more about having a focal point to the journey, something new, something different to go check out.

The latest word I’ve heard from folks who traveled to the Saline Valley for Presidents Day was that there was some snow and ice on North Pass but with 4WD and care it was fine. It’s been recently graded so I don’t think the wash boards are a big issue at this time. My wife is into fossil...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Swift camper tie downs - Tacoma Composite bed.

Does anyone know how much torque to use on the bolts on the tie down bars on composite bed Tacoma? I needed to take the bars out temporarily in my newly acquired 2011 Tacoma and it took a 3 ft cheater bar to break them loose. I figure they were rusted in place because I couldn’t see any evidence...

I was really intrigued by the self regulating heat trace tape, it seemed like the perfect solution, 12 volt, 3 watts per foot power consumption, only draws power when and where the temps drop below 35F, but i couldn't find any examples or feedback from people using it in our application...

Thanks for the insights PackRat, they make sense. The previous owner had mentioned how the heater had kept him warm at night in sub freezing temperatures so i guess I can extrapolate that he also didn't have any problems with freezing during the day while he was out skiing or driving around...

You can bet that if I'm in the camper and it's way below freezing out I'm going to have the heater on! My concern was for when I'm not in it and it's closed up with the top down either parked or while I'm driving around. Do people leave the heater on low in situations like that to keep things...

You are correct Rando, I do not have a water heater, just the stove and heater plus a water tank, pump and sink that the previous owner fabbed in himself. The sink drains directly to the outside, no grey water tank, so pouring water into the sink out of a jug rather than turning the faucet on is...

Thanks Longhorn, good advice and it only makes sense, if it's going to get really cold for any length of time the water is going to freeze whether you're driving, parked or stored for the winter. I'm new to the luxury of camping with a roof over my head and my lazy side was hoping that maybe you...

I'm not so much concerned about winterizing as I live in the Bay Area, I'm more concerned about what might happen to the water system during the day when I'm out on a trip in below freezing temperatures. Do i need to worry about things freezing up while the trucks parked at the ski resort all...

Hi folks, I'm a new owner of a 2013 Fleet that is equipped with a water tank, pump and sink. I'm looking forward to getting out more often in the winter months now that I have a warm place to sleep but I was wondering what I need to know about keeping things from freezing when I'm not in the...
