RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Water tank

Vic, et al, As long as you only fill with municipal treated water a 3 micron filter is OK to filter out sediment. If you use a source from a steam or other non-municipal source it is safer to use a filter smaller than 1 micron to filter out bacteria, microbes and parasites like Giardia...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Charging AGM Batteries to 100% after depleting?

AGM batteries achieve the longest life when 1) They are not discharged more than 50% and 2) When they are fully recharged every time they are discharged. It is best not to fast charge a lead acid battery. The reason most lead acid (FLA, AGM, Gel) batteries fail prematurely is from sulfation...

I do the same as RONR (above) and use the weak bleach mixture while filling the empty tank at the beginning of the season. Additionally, I drain and completely fill and drain the tank 2 more times after adding the bleach mixture, Then I fill with water for use which like ROMR is mostly for...

We have two 17' Pygmy kayaks. I have Yakima rails on my FWC Keystone camper and on my truck bed cap. We have Yakima paddles, hully rollers and a show boat loader. When loading the kayaks on the camper I need a step stool to reach the knobs but we use a little giant 3-step as a step for the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Attaching thermal pack on both ends

Make sure you can easily pull the thermal pac away from the ends to check for condensation. I recommend pulling back the thermal pac before dropping the top and checking for/wiping off any moisture between it and the vinyl pop-up material to mitigate potential mold growth issues. We frequently...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West My 2009 Hawk needs some love: best battery?

What Beach and Vic said. I will add that it is important to fully recharge lead acid batteries before discharging again in order to maximize the battery life. Said another way, do not allow the battery to cycle from a partially charged then discharge then back to partially charged then...

Dean's comment is spot on. We have a 1993 Dodge W250 and Michelin LTX and Defender LTX tires for years. Recently I switched to Michelin Agilis CrossClimate. 3 peak rated. I estimate our driving is 90% on pavement of some kind mostly dry buy also wet and snow (not always smooth) and 10% off...

I wonder if the solar controller is cycling on and off from "full charge" to "maintain" mode or something. Be sure to check al connections. Maybe clean the terminals and all connections and see if that helps. There are some Renogy trouble shooting videos on the web but i did not see anything...

ntsqd it was not a DC-8 it was an RC-135. It never had a window. It has been decommissioned and repurposed. I was a civilian crewmember and flew on it many times I also helped engineer, install and operate parts of the system. I have seen semi rigs with side baffles similar to those you...

I flew on a large specially modified aircraft (say no more) that had a sliding door in the side that opened in flight (at altitude) to allow a large optical system onboard to look out of it. The leading edge of the door has a raised wing like structure with numerous holes in it to create a...

J D did you check behind the thermal pack, between the thermal pack and the inside of the vinyl siding? Our camper gets moisture there and we always pull the thermal pack back and wipe in between before closing up.

The bugs that splat and collect on it will effectively shade the cells cutting down on its power output. A small amount of shade over a panel can seriously degrade its power production. The other challenge will be to keep it from flexing in the high wind environment and eventually cracking the...

I suggest taking the full size spare. I don't have a recommendation on where to carry it. We have done two Alaska trips. On the trip this past summer we drove to McCarthy. That road is notorious for causing punctures and flats. We saw a couple of cars without occupants and signs in the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wire From Truck Upgrade

Measure the output from your alternator with a volt meter. I found this recommended diagnosis check : If your readings are around 14.4V DC then you most likely have the traditional, non-smart alternator. If your reading is closer to 12.5-13.5V then it's likely that you have a smart alternator.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wire From Truck Upgrade

Cpt Davenport, Does your truck have a "smart" alternator? If it does then a DC-DC charger may be a good choice. If not then a DC-DC charger is probably not the right choice and a ML-ACR would probably be more appropriate.
