RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Condensation

We have done a lot of camping in environments that produce condensation on the inside of the pop-up material. It will make the mattress damp if not cleaned off and will support mold if not dried before closing up for an extended period. 1) The thermal liner has not prevented the inside of the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Owens Valley - November 2021

I have been passing through and travelling to the Owens Valley on camping and ski trips since the early 1960's. I recall seeing Elk there as early as the late 1960s and 1970's. Indeed, it is my recollection that they were nearly extinct and the small remnant heard that all the Tule Elk have...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Monarch overwintering sites ?

I worked in a building across the street from the Ellwood Monarch Grove for many years and have walked over there many times. It is worth a visit. Sadly there have been significant declines in the returning Monarch population the past few years. I believe there has been an uptick in the count...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hot Water Heater - Tank or Tankless - Fleet Shell Build

RamlinChet, John R, et. al, Completing the corrected calc above for required Ah from the battery: One gallon of water from 40° F to 110° F would require 583 BTU. 1 BTU equals 0.000293 KWh. 1 KWh at 12.8 v equals 78.125 Ah So 583 BTU equals 0.17089 KWh and 0.17089 Kwh equals 13.351 Ah at...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tires for F250 with pop up weighes 10k lbs

I think the Michelin Agilis CrssClimate only has the standard 30,000 mile warranty. From Michelin: "This tire has more than twice as much nylon reinforcement than the Michelin® Defender® LTX® M/S for improved durability". It is also 3 peak rated for snow (as is the LTX M/S). "Compared to the...

I had a similar problem with our Norcold N300 refrigerator. After fooling atound with the burner for too long I searched online for replacement parts, bought a replacement burner and installed it. Problem solved. I recommend starting with the burner replacement. If that doesn't do the trick...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How do you level your rig?

+1 on the Little Giant folding step. We use a Little Giant 3 step, 3 foot model. While a little heavier than I prefer it is very stable and works great. I just fold it up with a small tarp wrapped around it to protect the cabinet faces and slide it into the entry aisle of the camper. Wendie...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How do you level your rig?

After cracking several 2x8 boards over the years on uneven ground I bought a 3/4" thick stalll mat from Tractor Supply and cut two 8" wide by 36" strips out of it. I now put them down first and then stack 24" and 18" long 2x8s, each having 45 degree cut on one end, as needed. No cracking...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New tires needed. 3 snowflake rated is a must 5 choices in my list.

I choose MIchelin Agilis Crosstour M/S. 3 peak rated. They work well on wet and dry pavement as well as on graded dirt and snow. A big plus is that they are quiet on pavement and are high mileage tires.

Bepfre leaving for Alaska I bought four new Michelin Agilis® CrossClimate M/S Tires in 235 85 R16 for my Dodge W250 ClubCab Diesel Longbed carrying an 2007 FWC Keystone. They worked well on and off pavement in dry and wet conditions and tire wear seems to be good a but they were not quite as...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Do all battery separators suck?

I use the Blue Sea ACR in my boat and my camper. Neither has a smart alternator. It is my opinion that when used in a well designed system (which includes proper wiring size) the Blue Sea ACRs work fine. They are designed to protect the starter battery from being discharged (or overcharged)...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Truck to Truck Communication - GMRS Radios

The GMRS radios worked great during our Alaska trip and were a huge improvement in corrdinating on the fly over our 2018 trip. The handheld also worked well allowing me to scout out areas on foot while staying on communication with the trucks. On flat terrain even with trees we were able to...

We had a lovely drive yesterday from Hinton, Alberta through Jasper, Banff and Kootenay Parks to Radium Hot Springs, where we spent the night last night. It was sad and sobering to see the long lasting damage from the fires of 2003 in Kootenay Park. We saw a large flock of Rocky Mountain...

The two bolts that hold the two halves of the rear axle pulley that the belt drives somehow loosened and allowed a 3" long 1/4" x 1/4" key that fits 1/2 in a slot in the axle and 1/2 in a slot in the pulley to work its way out. The pulley was just spinning on the axle. One of the 9/16-12 nuts...
