RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fold down step sheared in half: VERY dangerous

From all the very good discourse we've had on this particular thread, there are a few 'facts' that seem relevant for us to consider. Occasionally, when an unusual or uncommon such-and-such equipment failure is posted on WTW, there are some folks that will generally dismiss it as a statistical...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fold down step sheared in half: VERY dangerous

4-month bump on this topic... Has any additional intel been gleaned from the step manufacturer or FWC as to why the step sheared in such an extreme manner? Thanks, Rico.

Answering my own question about Android use that was posed above: By using a Firefox browser option on an Android device, it's allowing the SSL connection (https) that was being rejected by the default Chrome browser... so there ya have it, ymmv. Rico

Yep, thanks Ronin! I've got it up on my PC and I'm liking what I see, it'll be very useful to us. Do you happen to know if this website works as an Android-friendly app for smartphones too? Rico

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Near Pagosa Springs, (something) Fork Road? Help finding a place!

I believe you're referring to the dispersed sites along the Piedra River just north of the Hwy 160 crossing (west of Pagosa Springs). As I recall there are several sites along the west and east banks of the river. Rough lat/lon coordinates: 37° 13.5' N and -107° 20.5' W Rico

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fire ring anyone got ideas

Good point, Paul. As open-air camping folks we can hope the 'dilution solution' is an effective deterrent against metal fume fever. Welders in enclosed spaces are known to have significant exposure to metal fumes, and OSHA has issued safety guidelines for these kinds of occupations. Yet...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fire ring anyone got ideas

We use the "Anza-Borrego" method, a simple metal trashcan lid available for individual purchase w/o the can at (some) TrueValue hardware stores, maybe others? Upside-down provides a great containment surface for your blaze, then Inverting it over the ashy remains overnight (with a large rock on...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West step stool for 4 Wheel Hawk on back of 2003 tundra

@ EnviroProf : Yes, that's my 18-lb 3-stepper, I guess it's a bit more pricey now than the set I got a few years back for $180. Many possible ways to mount them. In my case I had to fab a drop-in using an angle iron strip support to conform to our Grandby's overhang but it works, ahem...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West step stool for 4 Wheel Hawk on back of 2003 tundra

I have a set of Brophy 24" wide steps (3-stepper), the surfaces are treated at the factory with an add-on layer reminiscent of a coarse sandpapery kind of finish. So slippery has not been among my experiences with these steps, they're great. Rico

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West This is embarrassing! San Juan National Forest, CO

Upper Piedra River area NNW of Pagosa Springs, I'll bet they'd enjoy the 'semi-dispersed' sites at Bridge CG and the proximity of both river and lake fishing in the area. Or if you head up the hill just west of Bridge CG there's a few truly dispersed sites for the taking. Rico

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Personal FWC Tour?

The trick to configuring a Grandby on a 1/2-ton (shell model only) is to always keep heavy items forward of the rear axle wherever possible to maintain the best possible COG characteristics. We've done this successfully now for 6 years and 50K miles of WTW-ing, and we mostly subscribe to the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Porta Potti. what model ?

Thetford 365 in our Grandby shell for almost 6 years, two big thumbs up on its performance. We added webbing straps that hold the porta-potti securely against the camper so that it cannot tip over (but all bets are off if the camper tips over). Rico

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Looking for the optimal gear shelter

The little Zaltana throw-out popup tent that we use for daytime gear storage in camp has given up the ghost (trashed zipper and fabric on the tent's only door), and I'm now on the prowl for a better long-term gear storage solution. Our usual Grandby sleeping arrangement is a queen config down...
