RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Minimalist approach?

Happyjax, Don't feel too pressured into getting everything right the first time with your camper. I learned so much camping in my first hawk. There are just some things you learn while in your own rig. Now onto my third FWC I can tell you that they are exceptionally well made and very easy...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Inside Shower Tips?

I changed out my stock facet for a pull out one. I use it to take a limited shower inside - mostly just wash my hair. This can be done over the sink without spilling much. Then when I want a full shower it can be done outside. This works great for me.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Automatic Charge Relay - How to Improve your battery isolator

Hi Boonie, I have not noticed any issues with the difference in battery types. This is now the stock setup for FWC. It is a fairly straightforward mod for the older campers as well. I still enjoy my setup as is. I have not changed it since the original post.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Suggestions on how to mount MaxTrax?

I bought an extra yakima bar and have them on my tracks. They are on the posterior part and can be taken off when the camper is down. I guess someone could take them but it would require a little bit of effort to climb up there and get them. Never really thought about locking them before.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ordering a Hawk 1-28-17 Do's Don'ts?

Both the Grandby front dinette and Hawk were built for Chevys. The Front dinette is lifted up a few inches which makes it too tight for me to sit and each lunch without the top up. However, sleeping on the bottom bed is no problem with the top down. I do not have the inside shower option. The...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ordering a Hawk 1-28-17 Do's Don'ts?

The front dinette was my first camper as a hawk model. It was amazing for stealth camping. And I could pull over for lunch and eat without putting up the top. If I camped alone, this would have been great. The downsides are that there is no room when the couch is made into a bed. I'd sleep in...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ordering a Hawk 1-28-17 Do's Don'ts?

I upgraded to the 7350 fan and really like that. Lots of setting and you can even set it to hold a certain temperature. That's usually not listed as an option. I really like my front dinette. It's the best set up for me. I've owned all 3 table set ups and that one is my favorite. I love the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Absorption vs Compressor refrigerator

Wandering Sagebrush really sums up this decision well. I love my compressor fridge. It's amazing and a seriously better fridge that the absorption. But compressor fridge -> more power -> more batteries -> more solar -> etc... I wouldn't do it if the fridge works well. Although in full...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Automatic Charge Relay - How to Improve your battery isolator

I just actually doubled my wiring from the truck battery to the camper. I think that might help some but Craig probably had the best idea of wiring it directly to the alternator. I'm sure that would make a bigger difference. I'll test out later this month if this change made any difference for...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West AK Camper: Put on Utility Bed or Flatbed?

Hi Steve, The flat bed with the Alaskan is a creation of my father's. He designed it so that it could be used like a flat bed if the camper was off the truck. It also needed to be able to hold his tools and the rest of his gear while he travels. It's aluminum and is already on its second...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West AK Camper: Put on Utility Bed or Flatbed?

The beauty of Alaskan's is their ability to make whatever you want. The alaskan has the best of both worlds. It's a flat bed on one side and has a large tool box on the other side. It is one amazing and unique setup.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Upgrading my solar

I think you have a great plan with the upgrade. It depends on where you live if 160 watts of solar will be enough. You could always use the old panel on the roof too or consider using it as a portable panel. Between the two it would be enough. The dometic fridge is a great fridge despite...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Power use testing on my 2013 Hawk

Ron, I would think you need very little solar to run your system. You live in Twin Falls - so there is average sunlight - nothing like our Vegas or So Cali brothers who hog all of the sunlight. But you are only running a few LED lights and a 3 way fridge. No furnance, no 2 way fridge, no other...
