RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bendable Solar Panels and Compressor Refrigerators

Jim - that looks perfect. I think you are going to like that set up. Your idea with the bricks is a good one. Wish I would have done that. I think it would have sealed even better. I have thought about dicor around the edges of the panels, but it has worked well for me so far.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Measured FWC power use

Thanks in advance for the pictures. Which Adventure trailers did the work for you? Any idea in the cost to have that done?

Great write up Kilroy. I've thought about doing that myself too. Thanks for taking the time and effort to put that together.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bendable Solar Panels and Compressor Refrigerators

I've been meaning to post pictures of my solar panels for sometime. I finally took a few pictures and will post them here. Hope this helps those who are trying to figure out where and how to glue them down. Not sure if it's the world's best configuration, but it works for me. Like I've mentioned...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Who runs, or has run, their 3 Way Fridge on propane while the truck is moving?

I've never recorded more than about 16-17 amps of charging by my truck. I'm not 100% of how many amps it takes to run a fridge by 12 volt, but my guess is it is at least 20 amps. Your experience would make sense. It's good for a short while, but I doubt you are charging your batteries when you...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Three Corners: Idaho, Nevada, Utah

MarkBC, Just made it to the famous three corners today. Very doable by truck - although some stretches are a little tough. The monument is out in the middle of nowhere - just like you'd expect from the map. It was a fun day to travel out there and eat lunch with my daughter. Just a good...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Who runs, or has run, their 3 Way Fridge on propane while the truck is moving?

I've run it both on propane and 12 volt when I traveled. Never seem to have an issue with it. I've never heard of anyone causing an explosion from it, but I'm sure it's possible. Now I just live the compressor fridge world, so I never worry about it.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rocketbox and solar

I don't carry anything on my roof either - except solar panels. I can affirm the problem of shading your panels - it greatly reduces solar output. Maybe the next generation of solar panels will overcome this, but for now it's a significant issue. You'd have to plan out your panels and rack to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Measured FWC power use

Marco, That sounds like a nice setup. I am assuming the Anderson plug is wired directly to the camper batteries? Is the 300 watts of charging the two set ups together? I'd love to see pictures of that set up. 300 watts/12.4 volts = 24.2 amps That would be almost equivalent to shore power...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Measured FWC power use

I remember a few people put larger wiring from their truck battery to their camper. Does anyone have any follow up to that? I believe the stock wiring is 10 gauge and some guys were using 6 gauge to replace it with. I've looked into putting in dual alternators but it's fairly expensive. I...

Congrats on the new camper. What options did you go with?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar "Load" connection?

I think you are correct on that. Some controllers can direct solar power to the battery and the "load". If the solar cannot keep up with the load they can be programed to draw battery power to keep up. Isn't most of the power run through the load portion only for smaller volts or amps? I've...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar "Load" connection?

Some solar controllers do have a total of 3 inputs or outputs. One input is the incoming power from the panel. One output is outgoing to the battery. One output can be to run items you just want to run off solar - not battery power. I'm not sure if that is the same as yours or not. I've never...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar "Load" connection?

You could check with your instruction manual, but most solar controllers do much better if they are connected directly to the battery with both the load(+) and negative side. If the power is being sent through other wiring, it creates a voltage drop which means less power to the battery. It also...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Converting to front opening window

Randygirl, Do you have a picture of the new window? Could you PM me the name of the company? If I could find a direct replacement that would be much easier than cutting open a bigger hole for the window.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Converting to front opening window

I purchased a Hawk over one year ago. I've learned since than there were several options that I wish I had ordered, but didn't. I actually bought a show room model to save a few hundred bucks. But I couldn't change some options because of that. One option I have always wanted was the sliding...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tacoma & Camper Overall Height?

My 1 ton silverado and Hawk just fit into my garage. I love that. I only have about 2 inches of clearance, but it works. It is so nice to park in the garage and out of element when I'm not using it. I highly recommend that if you can swing it.
