RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adequate Ventilation For Engel Fridge

DesertDave, You'll have to let me know how your fan system works too. I'm curious to see if it makes a big difference in your setup too.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adequate Ventilation For Engel Fridge

Maxman, I have noticed FWC over the years has changed their designs as far as fridge ventilation for compressor fridges. I've seen them with only a side vent to the inside of the camper. I've seen them with only one outside vent. I've seen them with 2 vents - one upper, one lower - which is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Help with a (hopefully) new to me Grandby

I can't tell you how frustrating this same problem was to me when I tried to buy a used camper. The older cheaper ones wouldn't ever fit the newer style truck beds. I have a Chevy and you haven't even had to worry about the "notch" in the back of the bed. My brother remodeled a camper and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Help with a (hopefully) new to me Grandby

I would definelty call Stan or Brenda at FWC. 1-800-242-1442 There are some fit problems with older FWC and newer pickup styles. I personally would not drive all the way out there without talking to them first. I had FWC install my Hawk on my truck and have been glad that I did.

These are some great suggestions. Thanks for taking the time to help out! Please post any other ideas if you have them - but this has given me a great starting place.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Eastern Nevada Ideas

I am trying to plan a camping trip to Eastern Nevada and wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions. We are looking at Cathedral Gorge State Park or Great Basin National Park. I've been to Cathedral before and it is a decent place to stay - especially for kids to explore. It's actually where...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lithium install in my Hawk

Harv, Thanks for taking the time to post that info. It's quite interesting to me. This technology is getting better all of the time and it's likely to be used in future camper set ups.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bendable Solar Panels and Compressor Refrigerators

Mine is on my truck for probably half of the year. The rest of the time it is in a storage unit. Your Velcro idea is actually not a bad one. I originally thought about that too. I finally just put on a whole bunch of panels so I would charge to full no matter where I parked. 340 watts of solar...

I second RC Pilot Jim's thoughts. I've had mine for 1-2 years with no issues at all. You can get oxidation on the metal rings that are used to tie them down, but no issues elsewhere.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Help programming the Trimetric battery monitor

Yes it's helpful when you are charging from shore power. Turns the IOTA into a 4 stage charger. Plus it's pretty cheap and easy to do. Check this out: http://www.iotaengineering.com/iq.htm

That looks great Brian. Enjoy your upcoming setup. Maybe the truck will fit with camper in the garage. Mine does and I love that part.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West options I would like to see

Dan, I share your exact concern. I purchased a floor model hawk because I could save $500 off a floor model. I didn't gert some of the options I really wanted because they couldn't really be changed at that point. Since then I have learned of a bunch of options that I wanted if I had to do it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Drinking house (camper) water

I winterize my hawk each year with the store bought RV antifreeze. Then I rinse the tank out several times. I usually add in some bleach to the tank (with water) and let it sit with a full tank for a few days. After that, I rinse it out several times. This has always worked great for me. I can't...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding a lithium Ion battery to FWC

cdbrow1, I love this kind of stuff and am really interested about the total cost of your system and how many amp hours you get out of your battery system. I looked at going lithium ion for my battery system but just felt like the cost was too much for me then. But I've spent a fair amount on my...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Off the Book Options

One of my biggest frustrations about my hawk was that I rushed to get it without getting all of the options I really wanted. Some I didn't even know I could get until later. So in my quest to come up with the perfect camper, I've learned FWC will do some options you may not have heard of before...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding a lithium Ion battery to FWC

My trimetric monitor also notes a small amp reading as well when everything is turned off and kill switch is on. There is a small draw somewhere that somehow is part of the FWC system. I've never figured out where. I'm sure the monitor uses some. I always disconnect my batteries when I put the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding a lithium Ion battery to FWC

Good point on the charge curve of lithium vs lead acid. That is one of the real benefits of those batteries. The separator/isolater in my camper will not turn on (connect the batteries) unless the voltage of the camper batteries are 12.3 or higher. So if the fridge is running and the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding a lithium Ion battery to FWC

FWC uses a battery separator that will not charge the batteries from truck to camper unless it is at a certain voltage. This is to prevent you from draining your truck batteries from the camper. But it is a common problem area with our campers. Sometimes the battery draw lowers the voltage and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West options I would like to see

I've spoken with FWC and they will install a Heki skylight in new campers. Not sure about retrofitting an old one. I do not believe that option is on their standard list either. They install them over the galley area, not over the bed. This probably has to do with the lift bar being right in the...

I would love to have a skylight as well. I've seen them in a few other campers - XP, Hallmark, etc... but never in FWC. I wonder if anyone has ever been brave enough to put one of these in? I'd have to move around my solar panel setup but it might be worth it to me to try. I wish this was an...

Don, Platano is making some great points. Here is something simple to do next time to help you out. Measure the voltage, amps and percentage of charge on your next trip. Check and record them 3-4 times a day if you want. All 3 of them help you understand what's going on. They all tell you...
