RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West $500 to $600 camper fridge?

An update on my Blizzard Box fridge. I paid about $700 plus tax for this in July 2021. It's now selling for $900 on Amazon. It worked fantastic... until last week. I've been using it as my garage fridge, sometimes plugged in to 110 house current and sometimes with a 150w solar panel and a 75ah...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West door won't latch on FWC Hawk

I filed down the inside of the latch plate and that made enough difference to allow the door to latch. I've got a camping trip this weekend, so I'll see if this fixes the problem after a few dozen times opening and closing the door.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West door won't latch on FWC Hawk

Hey LightTec, I'm just down the road from you off I80. I think the issue is that the door latch "tongue" does not slide into the striker plate far enough to pop into the striker plate hole. Old Crow- thanks for the idea about the backing for the striker plate being dished in. I'll put a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A newbie seeks fridge guidance

I recently bought a "Blizzard" 12v refrigerator from Costo. I paid about $600 a year ago, but of course the prices have gone up. I mounted the fridge in the front my 2005 Hawk camper, where the batteries are mounted. I removed the seating cushion to install the fridge. I have a 100w flexible...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Off truck camper use

I have a pretty light 3 rail dirtbike trailer. I put a sheet of plywood on the trailer under the rails. I can remove the three rails and have a flatbed trailer that is narrow enough to fit between the camper jacks. I have used this setup to load my FWC for many years. The trailer is only rated...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West door won't latch on FWC Hawk

Hey all, I've got a 2005 FWC, I believe it's a Hawk model as it's on my shortbed 2000 F250. The main door does not latch very well. I keep trying to adjust the little striker plate, but that only lasts a short period before the latch stops latching and I have to use the deadbolt to keep the door...

Thanks! Just ordered the Costco Blizzard Box- can't pass up Costco's excellent customer service and return policy.

Thanks for all the great info. I'll take a close look at the truckfridge models.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West $500 to $600 camper fridge?

Hi all, I'm looking for a chest style 12v compressor fridge, probably about 45 liters. I'll have three uses for it: For weekend trips in my FWC; for desert trips in my 5th wheel to keep drinks cold; and when not otherwise in use, as a beer fridge in my garage. I will likely have it setup with...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West old school couch and new school refrigerator options

Hey everyone, I have a 1997 FWC Hawk. It comes with the three way fridge that never worked well and can only be used on flat surfaces. I haven't used it in a couple years due to ignighter problems. It also came with that crappy couch that has the back that just floats between the bottom cushion...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Front hitch to carry motorcycle

Thanks for the input. On another forum, it was suggested to try a drop receiver on the front, which I think I will try. If i was going to use this for a big trip, I agree that the dual receiver tubes would be ideal, but I don't expect to use it that often. I'll post pics when I try it out.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Front hitch to carry motorcycle

I've got a 2000 F250 diesel shortbed with a FWC camper. The camper sticks out about 12" beyond the bed of the truck, just enough that I can't use a rear motorcycle hitch carrier/mototote without some sort of extension. The extension adds wobble and reduces carrying capacity enough that it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Reducing my 3" Super Duty hitch for a 2" bike rack without wobble

I use the same product Aspen uses - $14.00 from Amazon. Works great to keep my bike rack from moving around, plus it's cheap and easy to use!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West toyhauler's smell like gas?

Thanks for the input. I'm also looking at the toyhaulers that have a popout bed up front, which should address the stink issue and the sleeping with motos in the garage/living room.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West toyhauler's smell like gas?

I'm considering a small toyhauler to replace my FWC slide in camper. A toyhauler would be roomier, would keep my bikes and motorcycles enclosed and would allow me to use an SUV instead of having to have a pickup. The option to store motorcycles in it when not in use is also a bonus. My concern...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West RV water pump- elect vs manual

I've got a FWC and a 30' fifth wheel. The water pump on my FWC went out. I tried to rebuild it, but either my rebuild skills or the pump must be FUBAR, since it now sprays water from the pump. I don't need the water pump for much- mostly washing my hands and washing dishes in the small sink...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What does everyone use for camper steps?

I've been using this one from Harbor Freight (under $30). Lets me still use the hitch if necessary. Doesn't work perfect, but does the job. https://www.harborfreight.com/hitch-extender-with-step-97685.html

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 7watt solar panel as trickle charger?

Thanks for all the input. I'm thinking that the 7w is pretty much useless for the truck and camper. I'll probably get a cheapo charge controller like Roverjohn suggested and use the 7w as a battery tender for my motorcycle/quad batteries. Using the math above, it seems like the 15 Harbor...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 7watt solar panel as trickle charger?

Why the 7w you ask? It's easier because I don't need a charge controller, and it's easier to mount the 7w panel because it's smaller. My thought was that a small panel would be enough to act as a trickle charger, but not so much that it would overcharge the 3 batteries. If I use the HF 15w...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 7watt solar panel as trickle charger?

I've got a 1997 FWC on a 2000 F250 diesel pick up. I have 2 starter batteries in the truck and 1 deep cycle battery in the camper. All batteries are 12v wet cell batteries. The camper battery is connected to the truck batteries via 10feet of romex solid wire, connected to a battery isolator...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West fake wood finish is peeling off! Plus - moldy bi-fold.

My 1997 Granby is in pretty good shape, but the damn fake wood finish is peeling off in random spots. Are people scraping it all off and repainting? putting a clear coat over it to keep it in place? Covering it all up with woodgrain sticky stuff or wallpaper? I had a roof leak, so also have...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A bunch of questions about re sealing roof

Thanks CWD, still looking at the roof paint vs. truck bed liner. I called Dicor and asked about what products to use. They suggested Diseal over the screw heads on the roof, prior to paint and butyl tape between the trim strip and the roof for where the roof meets the side. Finally, a bead of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Loading and unloading without jacks stands

I don't have much input about loading or unloading, but once off the truck, I lower my camper jacks to put the camper onto my motorcycle trailer. I remove the ramps and put a piece of plywood over the metal frame and the camper sits very comfortably on the trailer. I can then move the camper...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West roof lifter thingy strut strength with solar panel?

I just took off the solar panel and it only weighs 20 lbs, so it doesn't seem like it would make a huge difference. When I roll the camper out of the garage I'll pop the top and see what difference it makes. I suspect the real problem is that I was trying to pop the top with the bed pulled out...
