RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Victron Smartshunt reading

There's probably an auto-equalization setting in your MPPT. It'll jack the voltage way up to equalize the cells in lead batteries. You can turn it off in settings.

It totally is. Super simple. You've just got to support the regulator.

FWIW we have managed to get a few kits from Suburban for our customers and it's an easy repair.

I mean, something is pulling .2 of an amp. Probably the O2 detector. Open a beer and close the app.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Touch Screens in Cars Solve a Problem We Didn’t Have

I definitely prefer the buttons and dials in my 05 vs my 17. The 17 has dials, but they're obviously just sending 1s and 0s to the body control module. The touchscreens/computer controlled buttons are actually cheaper to produce, but seem more "premium" to the customer. Profit margin baby!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Finally installed Victron Smartshunt

If you leave the charged voltage set to 13.2, it'll reset the shunt to 100% way before it's truly full, giving you a ton of false readings. Typically absorption voltage is 14.6/14.7 or so for AGM. The shunt can't "sense" if the batteries are full, but chargers can (using internal resistance...

Charged voltage needs to match absorption voltage setting on the solar controller. Also, set your AH to total capacity. The discharge floor takes care of the usable ah issue with agm. Currently you've told the shunt you've only got 22.5ah to use. Here's a link to a couple videos we made on...

6awg is probably perfectly adequate for all truck camper, 30 amp DCDC installations.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lithium Upgrade

For what it's worth, we run 4awg on all of our DCDC installs because we know it'll always work and it's not much more expensive /ft in the long run. As a shop that does a reasonably high volume of installations, it's just not worth it to us to cut down to the bare minimum wire size when there's...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lithium Upgrade

FWIW, we just had a guy stop by the shop who had ordered the lithium package fresh from FWC. They HAD done a very nice job of installing 8awg wiring from the truck to the camper. However, it reduced to 10awg from the plug back. We were still seeing a voltage drop of almost 2v under any sort of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Free Beer Tomorrow! (But, really though, free beer)

Hey guys, I had a chance to buy up the last of the stock from a small local store that closed, so I've got a LOT of beer. I'll be giving away cases and six packs from our new shop location in Reno this Friday 3/23 from noon to 5 and then all day Saturday, 9-5. Address is: Zero Declination...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West I need a new truck

Definitely just get a gas F250 (350 if you can and if you have flatbed aspirations). Or whatever HD truck floats your boat. Tundra, F150 etc are really the only wrong answers.

Looks like Google photos as a hosting site is pretty glitchy with WTW. I'll have to find a different solution.

After a late start from Saline, we headed South. The road was rough and we travelled slow, stopping for lunch and photos, but it was a great test of the suspension work I've done to my truck this year. Pretty damn smooth! We got to see the jets, a bobcat, and Boxcar cabin before making camp at...

They said the dealers were complaining since I now sell a competing brand of popup camper. I certainly attempted to be respectful, and keep most of my content in the free FWC advice category, and certainly wasn't promoting other products. Several of the dealers are in regular contact with me as...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Electrical basics and upgrading to lithium!

I'd say it sounds like it's working pretty good. I'm not familiar with the Renogy DCDC50, but 43amps out of a Renogy sounds pretty good to me. We typically see 25-32 from the 30amp Victron units.

Oh no! They show up for me. I'm using links from Google Photos, posted in the manner described in your write-up. FWIW I'm using a windows machine, in Chrome. The photos are from a "public" album in GP. Looks like I'll have to figure out a different method. I can also see them from my...
