RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West The Landscape Photography Thread

Wow, these are all amazing! What an inspiration to get out and see more country. I'll see if I can dig up some of my favorites, and then see if I can figure out how to post them at a decent size. I guess I'm not too good at forums anymore. :D

Definitely less toxic than the FB groups. FWC HQ actually called me up and booted me from their owners' group.

The North Pass road into Saline was rough, but no more than any other bumpy BLM or USFS road. I've heard many stories over the years about how bad it is, but it must be in better condition than before? Just small rocks and washboards, like every other dirt road I've driven. We lost the snow as...

I the battery is truly at 92% that sounds like it totally could be right. Charging will taper off near full into an absorption state (higher voltage/lower amperage) to top the battery off completely when it's near full. What kind of amperage do you see when the battery is at say, 50%?

The next day, we headed back up North a bit and then approached Saline Valley from the North Pass. I passed through some blizzard conditions on the way South down 395, so we weren't surprised to come across a bit of snow as we crossed over the mountains and into the valley. Not a ton, maybe...

The first night, we all met up in Instagram's favorite OVERLAND spot: The Alabama Hills. I have to admit, I've avoided it mostly due to the reputation, but it IS stunning. There's a reason it's so popular for photos, ads, and movies. Altogether, we had: My 2017 GMC Sierra and OEV HBE An...

Hello everyone! This might be my first trip report on here, although I've been lurking a long time.. After lots of travelling I've been based in Reno NV for the last few years and I'm really enjoying the surrounding area. There's unlimited exploration within a days drive of here. I mean, it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Looking for a safe place to park truck/camper-Reno

I'll probably have space at my storage space out in Verdi. It's in a VERY nice, very secure, covered RV lot. https://www.verdirvboat.com/ They've got water fill, sewage dump, even a wash pad and a clean hot shower. It's not cheap though. My very large space is like $250/mo. I've usually got...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Looking for a safe place to park truck/camper-Reno

Hello Mitch, I live in Reno and own a shop here. I also lived in my FWC in the area for 14 months, so I've got lots of places. Are you looking for storage, or will you be staying in the camper?

The biggest issue is the stock 10awg. Just install the correct sized wire for 30amps at that distance. And make sure they're programmed the same. Otherwise, don't worry about it too much. As long as the battery is charged, your beer will be cold.

I really don't think it'll be an issue. As stated above, it'll eventually just drop to 12.8 and stay there. You probably won't get 100% (unless solar is in the equation too, and then I'm not sure why it's plugged in at all unless it's under cover). Also, most lithium batteries have very little...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Synchronizing Victron Components

Not that Vic needs my reassurance, but this is 100% correct. This is a common issue with DIY installs, and even a lot of installers. Even Battleborn had it wrong on a blog way back. But the full voltage on the shunt should match or be very slightly lower than your absorption setting on your...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Iota DLS-30/IQ4 charging graph

100% correct. It really makes very little difference for most of us, who are charging primarily via solar and from the truck.

Also, the fridge will run from 120v, even with the converter removed. It has it's own, internal 120-12v converter. It doesn't "charge" just runs, but I've never really understood the benefit of a compressor fridge that runs off of shore. If you're plugged in, you're charging at a much higher...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Electrical basics and upgrading to lithium!

We consistently use the IOTA as a tertiary charger for Battleborns. I'm sure the SOK are very similar. They are right, it wouldn't balance the cells correctly, but most FWC installs are using a DCDC and MPPT as the primary chargers, and they'll balance the cells just fine. I really wouldn't...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Electrical basics and upgrading to lithium!

The multiplus is a great bit of equipment, but for a vast majority of FWC installs is larger, more expensive, and more complex than really necessary. It's crowning feature is it's hybrid ability, but most FWC customers are A: Not running large AC loads consistently and B: Not plugged into a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New FWC's have 10awg wire internally, why have a thicker wire from truck?

Just to answer the original question.. you don't JUST rewire from the truck, but internally to the batteries as well. A dual 6v system in a fwc can see as much as 50amps of charging from your alternator when discharged, with correctly sized wire. The rest of the wiring is fine, fuse block...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Help needed upgrading FWC 12V system

How are you currently charging the camper? I guess just from shore before your trips? I'd connect to the truck at a minimum. It's easy and a good source of charging, assuming you use 6awg. At that point, an upgrade to the Blue Sea could be useful, AND the wire upgrade inside. Like Vic said, if...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar help. Upgraded lithium battery. Older Tracer charger

The victron MPPT 100/20 would be perfect for your use. No reason at all to use the 100/30. Victron rates the 100/20 for up to 290w of solar. Generally, running your camper through the load lugs on the solar isn't ideal, but honestly, if it works now, no reason to change it up. Happy camping! KP
