RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Custom Truck Bed Build Options

Over a year later and everything's still going well! We're still really happy with the bed and couldn't imagine living full time in a FWC without it. It just makes organization so much easier, and we actually have extra space without any boxes on the roof or back end. We've gotten it twisted up...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2015/16 Grandby Porch Light

Ours was definitely the switch. I ended up just wiring the original switch out of the loop, adding an LED strip below the camper directly illuminating the ladder, and wired the whole mess to a new switch on the stock panel just inside the door.

Still happy with ours! I can't imagine the damage we'd have done to our bags by now without the cradles..

Thanks for the feedback guys. I was just wondering if it was normal. Looks like we'll just keep cracking the valve as it heats.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hot water, over-pressurization

Hey guys, 2016 Grandby Fd. I've noticed that the hot water line below the sink will leak after firing up the hot water heater for the first time in a day or so. I'm assuming enough time for the water in the tank to cool down. Once the water is freshly heated, it has obviously expanded in the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Firestone airbags and daystar cradles?

You'll probably have to articulate the rear axle to see any separation. Go find a ditch somewhere or stuff the front corner into a bank. I think the cradles are most useful in those sorts of situations, where the suspension is forced to flex at or near it's capability. My bags separate from...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Random FWC Photos

Just a quick one from our time in Belize. When we first started this trip, I took pics of the truck and camper all the time. I need to point the camera at it again, it's feeling left out.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West OEM switch panel, 2015 Grandby

I was surprised I couldn't just find the things online. Took everybody's advice and just sent an email over to FWC. They got me setup with 3 more switches for $4/ea. Mailing them to a friends so she can bring them down to Guatemala with her..

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mounting FWC to the frame

Really cool build, you'll love all the extra storage the utility bed gives you. Totally worth the work to keep your tools and camping gear out of your living room/dining room/kithchen/office.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West OEM switch panel, 2015 Grandby

Hey guys, I'd like to buy a few switches to match the underutilized stock panel in my late model Grandby. Anyone know who makes the stock panel or where I can buy some more switches for it? I figure since I have the space I might as well match the OEM install. Thanks!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mounting FWC to the frame

You're right on there.. There will likely be tons of flex in the truck frame, there is on our HD Silverado. I think you have a good thing going with the spring bolt idea.. I always figure I'll let things flex if they want, somebody smarter than me probably designed them to do that.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Measured FWC power use

I made up a spreadsheet the other day calculating estimated power usage and solar needs. Our 90w portable just wasn't enough to run the fridge, plus a couple laptops. Especially on hot days. I ended up installing a 300w panel on the roof here in Belize. Not sure if anybody could use the simple...

We mostly keep the blog updated (one every Monday!) and post on Instagram. Our Facebook is fairly active too.. We do have a youtube channel, but it's mostly short clips and a few very amateur edits. Youtube- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClh3fQtG8ZVQALxc2nTtiyA Facebook- Running From Monday...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Mounting to '16 Grandby

Ok, So I just screwed into the camper roof where the supports were. It was obvious where the structure underneath was as the roof itself bowed slightly. I used self tapping/self drilling sheet metal screws, but larger ones. About 5/16" by 1" long. 1.5" aluminum angle accross the roof (and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Firestone airbags and daystar cradles?

We're running the AirLift bags with the internal jounce stops also. I ordered and installed the Daystar cradles at the same time as the airbags. I've had my truck twisted up multiple times, to the extent a front wheel comes off the ground in California, Utah, and Baja, and haven't had any...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Baja trip coming up!

We use iOverlander to help locate good spots to camp. The app (for iPhone and Android) is free and works offline. We try and find our own too, but it is nice to have the security of a confirmed place to sleep after a long day on the road. http://ioverlander.com/

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Mounting to '16 Grandby

Hey guys, I'm really sorry if this info is on here somewhere. I couldn't find what I was looking for. I'd like to roof-mount a solar panel to our Grandby. Probably up near the front, passenger corner. That will give us the most room, allow me to access it (from the hood of the truck) and is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West suspension

We have airbags on Daystar cradles and really like them a lot. They are similar to your added spring, but they let us adjust them as the weight of the load changes (water/fuel weight) or with road conditions. They also let us level our truck out in camp, which is a definite bonus. I'll throw in...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Baja trip coming up!

We ran most of that route about a month ago. The Mex 5 just before it links up with Mex 1 (near Coco's Corner) is was gnarly. First time I've ever aired down for a "highway".. We took the road out to San Borja mission between Bay of LA and Rosarito, camping for one night out there in the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ordering a Hawk 1-28-17 Do's Don'ts?

Two fans sounds like about one more than you'd need.. We actually have the flush mount sink and stove, and wouldn't have it any other way. But we live in the thing, so counter space is big any time we can get it. We also have the inside/outside shower and really like them, but again, we live...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bottle to Tank Water Transfer

We were originally just hunting down "Agua Purificadas" that had hoses and would fill our tank. Typically about $50 Pesos. Now we just fill the camper tank with water from the hoses at Pemex whenever we fill the fuel tanks. We've talked to a lot of full-timers who do this. We pour the requisite...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How to charge a laptop in a Fleet

We made a special effort to get as many DC powered things as possible, so we wouldn't have to go through the extra inefficient step of using an inverter. We have 12v cig-plug chargers for my Dell Inspiron and for my wife's older MacBook and they work like a charm. We try and charge the...
