RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Webasto Diesel Heater conversion on my 2013 Hawk

I think the gasoline version makes sense. I also have a gas engine but wanted the Webasto and only could source the diesel version here. I know you can source a gas version outside of the US but didn't want to deal with the issues if any problems developed in the delivery or the heater. I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Webasto Diesel Heater conversion on my 2013 Hawk

I kept the propane as I still have the stove and water heater. We usually don't cook indoors so most of the propane is now used by the water heater. (Just can't convince the wife to take cold showers.) I'm intrigued with the on-demand heaters but it would be difficult to justify the expense. As...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Webasto Diesel Heater conversion on my 2013 Hawk

I've read about Lavenar but haven't seen their product to comment. They have an active English speaker doing their marketing and it seems to help get the word out. If you use the internal mounted turn buckles, it will be difficult doing what I did. Both the front and rear (right side) access...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Webasto Diesel Heater conversion on my 2013 Hawk

Thanks for your feedback. The heater worked well during my inaugural trip last month. So far all is good with the heater. Appreciate your comments on the eye bolts. I’ve had this since 2018, so far have not been a issue. What would you recommend as an alternative?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Webasto Diesel Heater conversion on my 2013 Hawk

Thought I would post this information for those who might be thinking of changing out your FWC installed Atwood propane heater. Last year, after a couple of trips with 20 deg nightly temperatures, I decided to explore a diesel powered heater solution when I ran out of propane on both trips. I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FS: Used 2013 Atwood furnace (8012-II) from Hawk - $165

Recently removed my Atwood furnace and replaced with a diesel heater on the outside. Still in very good condition. I would say it was used a couple of times per year during cold nights. You will need to purchase an outside plate for the exhaust but otherwise all complete with labels for wiring...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West awning advice

Ditto...Except it was me that wanted the Bat-Wing. I went through the expense of removing my Fiamma only to later abandon the Bat-Wing and go back to the Fiamma. Unless you are tall enough to reach and deploy the Bat-Wing, it is a total pain to deploy and put away. Any slight wind with the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Backing plates pulling through truck bed

Yes, I had the same issue on a 2013 F150 but not as bad. You could see some pulling up on the bed. I no longer have that truck but now use external Torklift mounts on my F250.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West LiFePo4 charging

Yes, you should be using a lithium charge profile. According to the manual for the Victron 100/30, the profile is #7 on the rotary switch, however in review of the manual for the Victron 100/20, it doesn't offer an easy profile selection. You may be able to manually change the voltage levels to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Electrical Fire

I'm curious, was the IOTA converter turned on with power from shore power? When you say the main was turned off, are speaking of the DC main (push/pull toggle switch) or the AC main breaker?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar butt connection gone bad

I did an unscientific test and rigged up a load test on the cutoff butt connectors. Based on appearance, it look like the negative butt connector was the problem. Hooked up a 12v source and connected a 12v bulb with a 1.5 amp draw, I measured a voltage drop of 0.15v at the butt. With the 3...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar butt connection gone bad

Thanks Lineman for your thoughts. I used an ohm meter but had no load on it. Rest of the wire appears to be okay. I snipped off the butt connection, re-stripped the wire and soldered and shrink wrapped. I'll need to take the camper outside to test before my next trip.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar butt connection gone bad

Back from a recent trip, I noticed a brown mark on the front of my 2013 Hawk. Thinking it was dirt, I discovered that in fact it was the vinyl discolored due to the solar butt connector at the front heating up. I've had the same solar panels up for the last two years (3x120w) and didn't notice...
