RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Installing camper techniques

I don't have a video yet, maybe on my next load but I do remove the camper when I get home. I'm new to this and have only done it twice so far. I picked up the camper in early May so I would consider myself as a newbie. I'll recite what a I do in hopes of helping someone out there. My truck is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Real Time Help - Mounting Grandy for first time

Well, I did a measurement and Overland Hadley is correct. My eyebolt on the camper is 18" from the front and the eyebolt on the truck is 10" from the front of the bed, so an 8" offset. Here are some photos of the eyebolts on the bed.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Advantages of front dinette seating

I have the front dinette and enjoy the larger sleeping area it provides. Yes, the one negative is not having a window to look out during your time at the table unless it's only you and the opposite seat is folded down to see out. Otherwise the only outside view is via the back door. I still like...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West The Great Western Trail - Orderville Canyon; Arizona to Utah on a backroads trail

Thank you for sharing. I can appreciate all the work that went into documenting the whole trip. I'm a newbie on this truck camper and still tiptoeing into the who thing. I look forward to seeing more of your postings. Thanks. Harv

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West F150 FX4 EcoBoost

Thank you, Photohc! Very nice camper and truck, congrats. Have you put airbags on yet, or is it stock? Firestone airbags. About 30#s. Rides nicely with no issues. Lots of power.

Anyone care to post a picture of a Hawk on the 5 1/2' bed F150? I measured and it sticks out about a foot. I'm curious to see how it looks. It's very hard to find the 6' bed trucks where I am. I was out in Nebraska recently for work and there were quite a few on the dealer lots. Not so much...

Please let us know how you like the Front Dinette. From looking at the pictures, looks like it might make better use of space than my side dinette. Bill in STockton Bill, I wrestled with this for a while. I like the side dinette because of the windows but the size of the sleeping area was...

Lucky Dog!! Lucky Dog!! Lucky Dog!!!! I want a Silver Spur Hawk so bad I can taste it!!! FWC is supposed to have one at the Expo so I can see it up close. Is your bed 5.5'? Yes. Sticks out about 10" but still looks and handles well.

Congrats on the awesome FWC! Lucky to get a spot at Kirk Creek. We were there a couple years ago and tried two days in a row to get a space. Instead we went up to higher elevation which was still awesome. Just not as awesome. Anymore pics of your camper and trip? Where in OC? I would love to...

Sweet! Congratulations. Kirk Creek is one of my favorite camping spots of all time! We pulled in pretty late and was prepared to find a full camp, but as luck will have it, there were three spots left. Enjoyed a very nice evening learning how to operate things. Everything worked as expected...

Thought it was time to update this thread with some real world info. Turned 10k on a 2012 F150 Ecoboost with a fully loaded Hawk (almost all the options). The Hawk was weighed at the factory and I was shocked to find out it weighs 1500 lbs dry! Apparently the options weigh more then we think and...

Let us know what kind of mileage you get. Yes. I did measure the mileage once the Hawk was installed. Starting from Woodland and on to Monterey, Big Sur and cutting across the 46 to the i5 and back home to Orange County, I got 14.5 mpg. Most of the Hwy 1 speeds were below 45 with the curves...

Did you see mine there? I'm picking mine up next Monday (5/6). It's basically almost the same as yours. Spitfire, no I didn't. I was too focused on my new baby. I did notice lots of activity there with lots in the middle of build. Congrats on you new one as well!

Was that the final weight on yours? If so, that sounds about right. Mine was a little over 1300 dry with the jacks removed. The final weight was 1525# with jacks and all. I'll be removing the jacks during our trips, they tell me about 100#'s off the truck.

Hello all, just thought I would share my impressions of my newly acquired Hawk. I've been lurking here for 8 mos., soaking in all the experiences of owning a popup camper. I'm sure there are others out there looking for information, so my post. I just picked up the Hawk on Monday (4/29) at...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Plug location - Survey

I couldn't decide on the location as well, so I had them install two plugs. The back and on top. I will probably keep the panel on the roof but I plan to have a removable mount incase I decide for some reason to move the panel (unlikely).

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Another Minor Mod to the Raven

Well, I can't technically change the payload, so I guess I'm over gross. But it seems to handle it just fine. Sorry, I missed your post on the RPG and didn't understand what that was about. Searched YouTube and saw a presentation on the RPG bumps. Looks like a great solution from Hellwig...

Curious how you handled the payload issue with the Raptor coming from the factory at just a little over 1000# for payload? I'm getting ready to order a Hawk but concerned with the payload issue on my FX4 at 1319#. Thanks.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Unmounting a Hawk sloping driveway

Thanks to the group for some excellent feedback. I feel more comfortable to hear from people that have a similar situations. RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Unmounting a Hawk sloping driveway

Thanks guys, this forum is the best! Some great ideas, especially the small trailer option. Just to give you an idea of what the slope looks like, I've added a picture. There's about a 4 in. difference from the jacks in the front to the back based on my computations . No side to side difference...
