RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West No Destination : hoyden and two dogs hit the road full-time

You've been having quite an adventure since we parted ways in New Mexico. Really enjoying your reports and musings. Give the dogs a belly rub for me. Sent from my SM-T800 using Wander The West mobile app

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Snow in New Mexico or close to TX

A Sacramento Mountains snow update: We had some snow earlier, then a warm spell and it all melted. There's a chance for a little snow tonight, but it may not amount to much since the system is moving quickly. Ski Apache has snow, but just at the resort. The best bet for snow will be northern...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West AAA Towing

I have AAA "Plus RV" and had no problems and excellent tow service when the truck's axle failed about 30 miles from Flagstaff. I wanted the extended tow radius because I live far from a good mechanic.

Hey, that's good news. When and where do you plan to be in Southern New Mexico?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Portable Jump Starters

I just got the same one as Durango1, to replace a Dynamite (bought at WalMart) one. In all fairness, the old Dynamite battery lasted for several years and started my truck a few times, and other people's cars a few times. I feel like I got my $$ worth. If the new Jump-N-Carry lasts as long, I'll...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What do you do on a snowy day?

A bowl of posole after XC skiing or snowshoeing makes for a fine snowy day. Our last snowfall has mostly melted, but hoping for more in the next week. That white bean soup looks mighty good.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West HOW MANY NIGHTS DID YOU CAMP IN 2016?

Hmm, somewhere between 35 and 40 nights. I'm afraid I stopped keeping a journal.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Geezer card increase

In New Mexico, you get a reduced rate on a fishing license at age 65, and it is free at age 70. The state parks annual senior pass for camping is $100, ( the regular price is $180). Makes the interagency pass look like even more of a deal.

Thanks for posting this. On a related topic, does anyone know what you have to do to replace a lost card? Buy a new pass?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Truckclaws

I have no doubt MaxTrax are robust and high quality, but last winter they were beyond my budget, so I bought a pair of "Portable Tow Trucks". I've used them twice to get neighbors unstuck from their snowy/icy driveways and they are holding up fine. They work, although I have no doubt MaxTrax...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What do you do for outdoor dog pen?

Katie-lass will also wander off. Like others here I use a long cable. It takes up very little storage space which makes it worth unwinding the dog from a tree from time to time. I never leave her unattended. I never seriously considered a pen because of the storage issue.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Snow in New Mexico or close to TX

Also near me. Ski Apache has next to no snow and no runs open, but if it stays cold enough they may be able to start making snow. Currently, Sierra Blanca is more like Sierra Beige. Hopefully there will be snow soon. I'll update if the forecast snow pans out.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Snow in New Mexico or close to TX

Currently there is no snow in the Sacramento Mountains (Cloudcroft). The forecast calls for a few inches in the next week. PM me just before Xmas for the current conditions. I'll be on my way to Yellowstone on Xmas, so won't be much help after then.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bike Rack

I have a 1up rack and it is very high quality and pretty lightweight. However, it doesn't swing away, it tilts away. You can't get in the camper with a bike mounted, but it is so quick to mount and dismount a bike, it is not a major pain - just a pain. I need a hitch extension for my rig, since...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Local Festivals

The town near where I live depends on tourism, so there are many small festivals through the year. Honestly, many of them have the same vendors, artists, etc., and are hard to tell apart, but there is one festival that is worth going to: BAMM I don't see any 2017 dates yet, but that's typical...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West October travels

Wonderful musings, hoyden. Our distant ancestors flourished by being communal and nomadic. Most of us "modern" folks seem to do just one or the other (established communities being the norm). Perhaps hazy ties to our ancestors create the tension in the tether you mention? Maybe there's an urge...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West North Rim and Southern Utah trip report

I spent some time on the North Rim, Tuweep and the Kaibab plateau after backpacking to Phantom Ranch and back. This was a couple of weeks before your trip. I must say your photos put mine to shame. Great trip report!
