RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mini Truck campers (Keitaro)

Living in Japan as a kid I remember those trucks all over the place. And working hard! Leave it to the Japanese to cram a whole lot of living in a small place.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New FWC Hawk owner

congratulations on your Hawk! I can’t believe it’s been four years since I got my shell. I spent a year deciding what I wanted perusing this site and then the year waiting for it to be delivered on here asking questions and stockpiling items for it in my garage. Well fours years later I’m still...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Here is how to prevent getting locked out of camper

I guess I just like to simplify things too much, so I just took a piece of Gorilla Tape and stuck it over the opening so the dead bolt won’t slide out. And it keeps me from accidentally locking it. It’s still on after several years, lots in extreme heat.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Northern New Mexico - June 2024

Thanks Bill! As always wonderful photos, thanks for sharing. I made the mistake of going later to N New Mexico (mid August) when the “record heat” settled in. Altitude had no effect on it!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Inflatable kayak

I too have been a paddler most of my life and enjoy a kayak that performs well. Now I use mine primarily for kayak fishing (fly rod mostly) inland on the coast of Texas using a Eddyline Caribbean 14 but for overland trips I have been using NRS inflatables for maybe 12 years now. My current one...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Requesting Hawk Shell Build Opinions re: Fridge and Lower Bed

I kind of have the same “bed” setup but ours is for our dog. Yes he gets the best seat in the house but it keeps him out of the way. (80lb Lab) our fridge is about the same size, Iceco JP 50, and what we do is strap it on the side behind the furnace when on the road. That way we can access it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West AWD Vehicles Will Be Cited on 4WD Only NP Roads

That will be interesting to see how the post it. And yes I too have been on many 4WD roads that weren’t needed and then on roads that were supposedly not that were worse than any. In Big Bend NP I had a “car” pull into my backcountry site. I walked out to see what he was doing and a very Asian...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anybody running minimal or no power in their camper?

I did the same when I first got my Hawk Shell. I had one (bad from the start) AGM battery, and propane heater. We used led lights a backpacking stove or 2 burner we could use in or out, an old 60qt Gott cooler and all worked great. I eventually added 250 watts of solar on the roof, got a Bluetti...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Front Suspension Damage - This needs To Be Fixed

WOW! That was close and the “high speed” comment sent shivers up my spine. Just another example that stuff happens. I think I need to go spend some time under my truck!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West BBQ for camper - with a poll!

I have an Olympian that we have used for about 30 years. I hook it up to a 10 pound tank or a 1 pound if away from the camper. With all the “burn bans” lately I’ve been glad I have it. At home I use a Big Green Egg a lot and do wish I could use a Mini on the road but without dealing with ash...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Toilets for FWC Shell

I am more simplistic and do not like uni-taskers, including my toilet. We just use the 5gal bucket, I put a slit pool noodle around the top (leaving the front section open for “access) and put a wag bag over top and wrap a bungee around it to hold it in place. We have a folding bamboo platform...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Blue Sea Breakers & Cold Weather

I am in the process of installing lithium in my camper and we are having temps in the teens and twenties with highs below 32. ( yes it’s Texas!) My bats do not have low temp protection as I figured normally 95% of the time it would be fine. My plan is to just disconnect the line from the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Victron Smart Sense

I’m finally going to replace my original AGM battery with lithium. In staying with my minimalist approach I am going to try a LiTime mini 100Ah battery. This model does not have a low temp sensor so I am looking for a work around. Does anyone have any experience with the Victron Smart Battery...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Gaia GPS Navigation

I just found out my Gaia annual subscription is going from $39.95 to $59.99. That’s a pretty big jump! I don’t use it that much (unfortunately) so I am canceling it. I usually use Google maps and I will mark out a route using back roads whenever possible on Benchmark Maps. But I would like to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Current Spike in Gas Prices

OK this has happened to me now way too many times to be a coincidence. I can drive down the street and see gas at say $2.43, I plan on getting gas when I turn around and within hours the gas has jumped to $2.79! Not just at one station but ALL the stations. Do they get on the phone and say “Hey...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Snake River Quagga Contamination

I have not heard of the Quagga Muscle, we now have the Zebra Muscle in our local lake and are “hoping” it does not spread into our river. Looking up these things I see that they are similar but the Quagga is more aggressive. I think maybe we need to adopt the cleaning stations around here, make...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West BIG changes to FWC's video

I always said if they offered Lithium batteries when I bought my Hawk Shell 3 years ago I would have popped for it even though it was at a premium price. I probably still would but the overall price now would have scared the heck out me! I thought the under bed storage was nice until I realized...
