RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A/C for Eastern Humidity and heat ?

I’m getting ready to do the portable AC thing myself in the small driver side window. For those of you who use the small window unit I see you have a shelf that the AC rests on outside, does that hinge up when not in uses? Also I do not have shore power so was thinking about running an...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dish Washing in Hawk Shell

We just use one of the collapsible basins and bio degradable camp suds. We try and get all food particles off with a paper towel which gets thrown away. We don’t camp in RV parks etc so that gray water will get poured around a near by bush or tree. We also don’t use grease or animal fats in our...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How To Poop & Pee Outdoors - NOLS

I could not agree more with ski3pin and Larry! I now have living full time in my camper one of those long handled grabber things whose only purpose in life is to pick up other peoples trash! I have walked along a beautiful mountain stream only to find piles of toilet paper around the bend. (Who...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Communication with Four wheel camper

Well for once I am VERY happy to report something positive. I received a voice message from Christina today about my furnace issues. Basically telling me what we already figured out and for now leaving the duct work off was the best solution. I called her back (had to leave a VM) saying I know...

Nice rig Ted! One of these days… I’m looking forward to your future posts. Love the photos too. And it is getting harder around here to even get reservations!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Firestone Ride Rite - inflating questions.

I just use a small telescoping bike pump (for mountain bikes) and check with my regular tire gauge. The only time I need to add air is when I am loading up for a trip, my shell is “modular” so I load up when I go and remove when I come back. Upon return I will lower the pressure down to daily...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Spring trip to Utah & New Mexico

Thanks Bill! What great photos. We just did a trip around Butler wash area the end of April and can’t wait to get back. Maybe poach some of your route?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Communication with Four wheel camper

I guess I need to clarify my comment. My main communication with them has been about the furnace and this last time was complete radio silence. the first communication was about the wiring. I bought a shell and was installing my own solar and the video did not match what was in the camper. It...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Communication with Four wheel camper

I feel y’all’s pain. We ordered ours right before Covid hit, found out through trying to contact our dealer that he was closing shop and we were left scratching our heads wondering if we should just cancel the whole thing. We ended up having some “issues” about the delivery and install locations...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West GMRS Radio for Vehicle to Vehicle Communication

Gee, I’ve had a couple GRMS radios I’ve had probably 25 years. I never knew those had to be licensed!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lower Sleeping Platform

no it is fixed, I thought about hinging it for access to the cooler but didn’t want it flopping around on rough roads. I put carpet on the cooler box so I can slide it out once I unstrap it. and yes the bags are for shoes and the dog leash to keep them all out of the way, and to keep from...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hawk Shell side benches?

Not a great shot but yes they are hinged. I have found they are perfect for two Helinox chairs, the table and trekking poles. And that is on one side. The driver side only the front is usable storage the back is the electronics.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lower Sleeping Platform

This is my simplistic way. I found the benches too narrow so I screwed a wider piece of plywood on top and ran a bed all the way across the back with the bench plywood butting into that. I’m not 230 but with my 90lb dog on it with me I am! this is cluttered but it is fully loaded for a week out.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Airing down tires with camper on

WOW! Really makes me stop and think about it. So what about the opposite side? Most of us are running larger tires and PSI above what is stated on the vehicle. I’ve only gone one size up in my tires but the E rated Coopers have a max PSI of 80, I’ve found (through chalk tests etc) that 65 and 60...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dometic furnace sail switch rehash/update

in my case 100%. It doesn’t even get to tying to light, it starts blowing and shuts off. Apparently this has been going on awhile, our first trip with the camper it wouldn’t start and our friends with a 5 year old Fleet told me to try taking the cover off because when he had problems with his...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dometic furnace sail switch rehash/update

I’m not sure about other models, I know it is primarily in Hawk Shells so I don’t know why the other Hawk layouts would be any different. The furnace opening sits on the right side of the cabinet and the faceplate opening is in the center. So in about 3 inches of space the flexible duct has to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dometic furnace sail switch rehash/update

Yes that’s it. FWC came out with a vent cover that has the duct opening off center so it is in line more with the furnace opening. After scrunching, shortening etc. the duct on mine to no avail I tried to get this “new and improved “ face plate and was told that it didn’t work either. The new...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dometic furnace sail switch rehash/update

It begs the question why FWC doesn’t send the defective ones back to Dometic and get the current ones?? I guess because it’s the same reason why they can’t come up with a fix for the bad vent design in the Hawks. Which so far is the only issue I have had with my furnace. But this is good to know...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Awning analysis paralysis...

No it was just a tarp thing using the side awning brackets and the brackets I made to mount my fly rod tube and staked out with some extension poles. Hence the concerns. :/

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Awning analysis paralysis...

I already had an ARB awning that I am very happy with so stuck with it. I went through all the gyrations of mounting and because it is rather heavy (the 10’ one) I decided to shoot the lock of my wallet and get the Mule. I also wanted to put it on the drivers side so I could put a folding stand...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Texas to Bluff UT and back.

Just back from 5 nights out. First night was at Sumner Lake NM, then met up with David and Teresa from Grand Junction Co and spent three nights traveling the back roads into and around Butler Wash on some rough 4x4 roads to a very remote camp. Another night in NM (Turquoise Trail Campground, we...
