RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof Sealant

I like butyl tape under the fan mounting flange. Then the mounting screws. On top of all that either a good tape like Eternabond or Flexseal or a Dicor or similar self-leveling sealant. Silicone caulking not recommended.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hole in Aluminum Repair?

Nice work there! I had tree fall damage to my Hawk. This damage was fixed by these methods, and it's been a year...no leaks. For a small hole < 1/2" needing no additional support or protection: Eternabond Tape or similar Flex-Seal Tape. Clean the metal well, scruff up lightly with an...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roaming around Northeast New Mexico; May 2023.

Living in Virginia seems to make me "wish to be out West" at least every other year. In Late April into May I wandered out that a way and enjoyed/explored Northeastern New Mexico. My New Mexico focus areas were Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Vegas, Los Alamos and the vast National Forests of the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solo Stove

We enjoy our Solo Ranger. It offers clean burning with minimal smoke, leaves only fine ash behind to clean up, and with the optional riser and cast iron wok or grill cooks great. If we're going in our trailer/toy hauler the Ranger is always brought along...but we found the Ranger just a tad...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Boxio Toilet (and sink unit)

The time came for an improvement in our toilet set up we use in and out of our Four Wheel Camper Hawk. This might be of interest to some: Over the past few years our camping toilet has been a simple bucket toilet. This system works pretty well overall. It consists of a plastic 5 gallon bucket...

I have a '18 Hawk and replaced my 2 old AGM's with one 100AH Renology Lithium battery a year ago. I have the FWC 160 watt roof solar panel, 30 amp Zamp controller and the IOTA charger/converter. Isotherm 12vt. 130 qt refrigerator, propane furnace, 2 powered roof fans. I've found that the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof Repair

Now to the corner/jack bracket repairs. Both sides were similarly damaged by the impact of the limb knocking the camper off the jacks & blocks/cribbing thus bending the brackets away from the frame. The damage is really bad. The internal aluminum square frame structure itself is severed on one...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof Repair

About done with the final roof panel repair. Here is what I did, I offer it only as it might help someone or give them even better ideas. Step 1 was to clean up the penetration tear area and remove burrs and folded over areas. I used some wide lip welding pliers and sheet metal shears for...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof Repair

I'm going to add to this thread as it might help someone. It's so hot here now I just going to add to this bit by bit as I take AC breaks in the house. A severe storm caused a large tree branch to fall on our Hawk. The camper was on blocks/boards and jacks and the impact knocked it sideways...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West '18 Hawk Water Heater Woes...

The Atwood heater was years out of warranty. On Ebay I saw another of the same model for sale as parts...photos showed the same defect - split at the tank seam. I don't regard this as a FWC issue at all...just poor quality control from Atwood. I am just glad a replacement was able to be...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Water system leak

Some thoughts: 1: Check the orientation of your plastic manifolds and ensure they are mounted fittings/ports DOWN. This helps them drain. 2: On my Hawk I had freeze damage to a three port manifold and replaced with a couple of brass tees and nipple fittings. Easy to find and much more...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solo Stove

We bought the Solo kit with storage bag & iron grill top/adapter ring. I can’t recall the size name but it transports well. The Solo burns clean and hot, with nearly no smoke with decently dry wood. Burns down to just ash. Have also used with charcoal. Edit: Solo Ranger is our model.

I was doing some dishes and the OEM Atwood water had been on awhile. Suddenly I heard a "pop" and I was standing in hot water. Later investigation showed that the aluminum tank on the heater had ruptured along a welded seam. I found that trying to repair the OEM unit was not possible as some...
