I looked under "forums" list and don't see it listed. Where are the threads? On an entirely different site than WTW?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper Ordered, But Which Truck to get?

Here is the door sticker for the F250 STX w FX4 pkg, I think I'm within specs. Thanks for taking the time to post your door sticker BigRanch. To put your mind at ease here are my numbers on a 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 2WD regular cab 6.5' box. GVWR: 2903kg (6400lb) GAWR FRT 1452kg...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper Ordered, But Which Truck to get?

Most trucks have no issues "hauling" a Hawk. Some people want to able to "hammer" a Hawk on 4X4 terrain or on the way to work :) A 3/4 ton at 1/2 payload may offer a more spirited/safer ride than a 1/2 ton at/near max payload.

Nice truck. Congrats! I'd be interested in reading what your door tag indicates: GAWR front GAWR rear GVWR Also, is there another sticker (perhaps in the glove box) that indicates a weight rating for a slide in camper? BTW I like the STX package. Good value. It is very high without running...

Thanks Scud. I like the look of those Stableloads. I never knew they existed. Clever product. Thanks David for post #40. Helpful.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton, what are most people using for their FWC?

Yet, oddly enough I have seen posts of people adding airbags to 3/4 tons. I'm considering a 3/4 ton for my next truck, but I don't want to add airbags. I'm a bit confused on how much is too much suspension, and how much is not enough.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hawk Shell-Interior layout-What would you do different

I would forget about the other 2 people, being you will be sleeping/eating 2 people 99% of the time. I would consider carrying a small tent and plan on eating outside if you have guests. I would also recommend taking your time on the build. Use it and discover what works and what does not...

Looks good. It will be interesting to hear what you think of the difference, now that you have it installed.

The "red bands" are Tuck Tape (sheathing tape). It's a vapor sealing tape, typically used on seams of foam insulation boards. link to Tuck Tape. The grounding issues I was referring to is how the factory marker lights are individually grounded to the aluminum skin of the camper. It's a crappy...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Winter camping

Adding the foam made a big difference in the amount of cold air that came in near the corner sections and the nose area (that's the section with the most tuck tape). As you can see it also made it perfectly level between the slide out portion and the base section. There is no longer a 1/2"...

Yup. Just lock them together... custom cut to the shape of the upper nose area and seal with tuck tape. It made a huge difference.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Winter camping

Creating that much air flow at -20F didn’t make it impossible to keep your camper warm? Understand, I don’t have experience with these forced air heaters. It was pretty good. The heater would shut off once in a while, but not for long. I used about 3/4 of a 10# propane. If you tent, you know...

Yup, ventilation is key. I've camped at -31C -23.8F with no condensation issues. I open one window about 1/3 to 1/2 way. I also open the fantastic fan vent a crack to allow air to flow through.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mammoth RV Park Has Issues

They should have asked the guy in the van to move as well. That being said... I'd be frustrated as a tenter if I was forced to use an RV site and pay $51.30 because all the tent sites were occupied by campers/vans etc., especially if the campground was nearly empty.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Trip Report: Glacier National Park and the Canadian Rockies

Nice trip. Beautiful photos. I hear you about the crowds in Lake Louise, Banff and Jasper in the summer months. Our summer months are short, so the crowds really come out. To be honest summer is my least favourite time to visit the parks. We usually visit Jasper monthly. Prior to the May...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Clearance light wiring

I don't have an Alaskan but I would assume your wiring pattern is a single hot power cable with each individual light grounding through the camper frame/body. You are still likely not getting a good ground even though you cleaned the contacts. Connect each light to a known good ground. If they...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Thoughts on securing fresh water drain from mischievous hands.

I think the chance of somebody opening the valve maliciously is very rare. If it were to happen, its likely in an area where it's not too difficult to refill on water. I've had a few times where I've been purposely draining the water tank and people comment that it's open fearing I'm losing...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Spare Tire - not a "mod"

I just lowered and checked my spare tire recently and I'm sure glad I did. The "tube" that guides the rod to the spare tire crank had come off (it's common). It was very difficult to get rod inserted into the crank to lower the tire down, even in my own garage. I'm glad I didn't have to deal...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tool Kit Ideas

I'm trying to build a basic Tool Kit that won't weigh too much Thanks, Elliott I like Larry's list. It takes up very little room. A self rescue is a lot more affordable :). The same tools may come in handy for survival. I'd also carry a few meters/yards of bailing wire and zip ties. An...
