RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hot water no pressure

I have not seen this before, but may be some debris that has become lodged in the output fitting of the water heater? Have you tried pulling the anode/drain plug on the heater and see what comes out, it is surprising how much precipitate/sediment can build up in there.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Slide in Vs Flatbed?

Modifying a slide in would be a lot of work to do well, and you would miss two of the most important parts of the flatbed - the side entry that allows for the improved layout, and the fixed full size bed (with storage underneath). It may be better to sell the slide in as a slide in and buy a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How many watts solar will I need to run my Norcold fridge

I am afraid the answer is too many. It is not practical to run a 3-way fridge on DC for more than a few hours, you either need to use propane or upgrade to a 2-way compressor fridge.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Slide in Vs Flatbed?

Not in mine (7' door) but it could with an 8' door. The bed on a flat bed is usually a few inches higher than a truck bed, and the cabover is thicker as there is storage under the bed, so overall it is probably 6-12" taller than a slide in. I didn't even consider a truck camper until the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 4AWG from the factory?

Isn't there one on the page you just linked to? https://www.ancorproducts.com/en/resources/conductor-sizes The key thing about sizing per length of conductor is that you have to assume an acceptable voltage drop. Most tables seem to assume 3%, which is an OK ball park estimate. But like most...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 4AWG from the factory?

It is not a safety issue - as mentioned previously 10AWG is rated up to 60A, so no issue there. You do want the wires on the output of the DC-DC to be short and/or fat so that the battery being charged is seeing close to the same voltage as the charger is providing. Assuming a 15' round trip...

This is the ABYC (marine) spec, you are likely thinking of household wiring:

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 4AWG from the factory?

The Victron recommendation is unclear, it would makes sense for the output cable, but not for the input cable. I am pretty sure FWC uses 10 AWG wire, which is rated for (and should be fused for a maximum of) 60A, so you have plenty of margin there. One thing to note is that they typically...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 4AWG from the factory?

If you are installing a DC-DC charger, you don't need larger wiring. The DC-DC charger will boost the voltage, offsetting the voltage drop on the skinnier wiring. With heavier gauge wiring you may not need the DC-DC, but have you priced a DC-DC vs ~50' of 4AWG wire? The DC-DC converter is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bears Ears Kickstarter

Here is another interesting take: https://www.kuer.org/health-science-environment/2020-11-10/despite-promises-from-biden-future-of-bears-ears-is-still-uncertain To summarize: Although the monuments (both Bears Ears and GSENM) could be restored by executive order, it may be better to let the...

Thanks for the lead on that. Here is the article she is referencing: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/08/climate/biden-climate.html?smid=tw-share It is a little bit nebulous if these are things being suggested to the incoming administration, or things they have said they will do. Either way...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bears Ears Kickstarter

Now that we have an imminent change in administration, maybe there is some hope for the restoration of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante National Monuments. Does anyone have advice on where to advocate or how to get these issues on the agenda? It appears that some are hoping that the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Center of gravity question

I think the definition of 'pretty serious' trail varies greatly from person to person, but I can give you my experience with a fleet flatbed on a Tacoma over the past 4.5 years. I would not consider myself a 'four wheel driver' in the sense that the driving is the goal, but often to access...

PS I am also interested in this thread as I will need new tires soon. Not all that happy that I only have ~30k on a BFG AT KO2s and they are down to < 1/2 tread.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New tires needed. 3 snowflake rated is a must 5 choices in my list.

The 'Mountain Snowflake' symbol doesn't really mean the tires are snow tires, just that they are a little better than 'all seasons'. On my last camper I had BFG ATs for the summer and then Blizzacks for the winter. Even though the BFGs are 'mountain snowflake' rated it was still night and...

Here here! We avoid the sort of campgrounds that the RV crowd seems to like (paved ones) to try and avoid these infernal buzz boxes, but even that doesn't always work. Earlier this summer I was out dispersed camped out in robbers roost - no one within a mile of us. Someone pulls up late...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Pros and Cons of Second Truck Battery

I may be wrong, but is a factory second battery not just in parallel with the first battery? In this case I am not sure it would provide much redundancy. If you were to run the truck battery down, with this setup you would end up with two flat batteries. Furthermore if you were to have a...

Yeah, that is what I meant by reducing the amount of charge by 60%. It also won't allow your solar to charge your truck battery.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lithium battery connected to BlueSea ACR 7610 question

Are you sure you want the LI-BIM 225? It will reduce the charge from your alternator by 60%. I know on my Tacoma the charge from the alternator was a bit anemic to start with (~8-10A), with this installed you only get ~4A or so.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Matching New Solar Panels to Older (2015) FWC (with 100w panel)

With a little more digging, there does seem to be some truth to the claim that SunPower Maxeon cells are slightly more shade tolerant. The cells have a lower voltage drop across a reverse biased (ie shaded) cell, so instead of the bypass diodes kicking in with one cell shaded, you can continue...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Matching New Solar Panels to Older (2015) FWC (with 100w panel)

I am not seeing or buying the shade tolerance thing either. The only way to do this would be to put bypass diodes on each and every cell, which there is no mention of. The Sunpower Maxeon cells used in both the SolGo and Overland solar are pretty standard these days in many of the light...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hot water and outside side shower.

Another more expensive, but nicer and possibly easier install option would be to add the Truma Combi hot water heater and furnace. This would replace the furnace, and only requires a small hole for the exhaust/intake as opposed to the standard RV water heater that requires a large cutout...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West IOTA and Lithium Battery Charging

Assuming you are talking about feeding a Victron MPPT solar controller - then I am afraid it will not work. The MPPT controllers need to see about 5V over battery voltage (so ~18V) on their input to start charging.
