RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West First FWC

Unless the Grandby was built/mod'd to fit a flatbed I can't imagine the width being 64". The floor of a pickup bed is generally 48"-51" wide to fit a 48" wide sheet of plywood or sheetrock between the wheel wells. Hopefully the seller meant 64" wide where the camper slides in between the upper...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Falcon Rebuild - Heater Options

Sorry- the hot air vent is the one upper right in relationship to the louvre. The other vent is the air inlet. The louver is for venting the cabinet. I'd say the hot air volume is somewhat minimal but it gives you a nice gentle heat.

Sorry,I don't have pics of the actual install. Here's a pic of the install diagram that came with the Propex. A 2nd pic showing the lower portion of my stove cabinet. I installed a shelf about 12" above the floor where the furnace sits. In the diagram the "sill of vehicle" is the rear wall of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Falcon Rebuild - Heater Options

I ordered my Propex HS2000 from Westy Ventures. Checking their website they are referring customers to Vancafe for Propex furnaces. During my ATC Panther shell build I had Marty pre-install the thru hull flue fitting near the bottom of the stove cabinet exiting the rear wall to save me the...

You'll be happy with the Propex. I had an Olympian Wave in my prior Hawk and it provided adequate heat but I was always worried about maintaining adequate ventilation plus being super careful not to leave anything flammable near it. I have a Propex in my ATC and so far it's worked great. It's...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Too many stupid people

The majority of our trips are done starting in mid-Sept through early December and ramp up again in February through mid-May with a couple of annual "guy" winter trips in between. It used to be less crowded during that time but sadly the times have changed and we run into more and more of the...

Good to know you're all equipped to handle emergencies. I've had a few mishaps over the years. Once I has pulling out a tree root and when it gave way I flip over head over heals down an embankment. Fortunately, I didn't hit a rock like you did. Here's a pic from 2018 at the Echo Lake...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A Real Truck and Camper

Okay- it's nostalgia time. Boon docking somewhere northeast of Death Valley early 1986. I sold the 1965 Panel a few years ago because I also had a '66 4x4 Panel. My kids used to hide in the back and asked me to drop them off a block before school. All of their friends affectionately called it "...

I feel your pain Patrick!! It's fortunate that you didn't sustain permanent damage to your back. I've witnessed several close calls like yours that happen in a heartbeat. Have you had second thoughts about working with only 2 people? Crews I work with require a wilderness first aid certified...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West First Post - Going to Utah/Arizona in October

I don't know where you are in Wa but one possible route would be to head towards Burns Or and explore the Steens. From there you can go to Great Basin NP, then pick a route from there to Bryce Cyn or Zion. One possible route is to head south to Cathedral Gorge SP in Nv. From there it's a...

Congratulations on your new Hawk!! I've attached a pic of my ATC Panther during the build to give you a visual of how your FWC may look like under the skin. Be very careful about drilling holes into the interior/exterior walls. There are very few places where you can attach load bearing add-ons...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ocelot passenger side window - why have it?

I'm probably one of a handful of people that has a window on both the passenger side and drivers side. RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2005 Tundra, first major maintenance.

I had a 2003 Tundra and in 2012 did the 100,000 mile maintence. That included it's first brake job, major tune, timing belt and water pump. Prior to that the only times it was in the shop was for a couple of recalls, oil changes and new tires. I replaced it with a 2013 that was totalled last...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC - Shell or Camper...?

Nothing really. All ATC or FWCs besides flat bed models need to box in the wheel wells. I did route one of the furnace port outlets near the footman loop holding the shock cord you see on the left. The door near the bottom is the access door for the turnbuckle. Normally on a shell model it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC - Shell or Camper...?

I can't answer your questions about why you can't get all of the options you want in a FWC. Yes, we all want the perfect rig, but it's not realistic to compare a Sprinter build ($$$$) or a self contained unit to a FWC. Shell models are for people who want to build out their interiors to suit...
