RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Valentine's Day Surprise

I'm leaning towards buying another Tundra. I'll either buy new or maybe just upgrade 2-3 model years with low mileage as you suggest. A new camper is definitely on the drawing board - probably an ATC shell model with just a couple of goodies like stove and heater. I've done so many mods to my...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Valentine's Day Surprise

Thanks all for your kind thoughts!! I'm sure I'll be buying another truck as I'm without wheels. In a perfect world, I'd call Marty today and put in my order for an Ocelot or Panther shell model with just a sink, stove, and dinette and anxiously wait 4-5 months for delivery. Realistically...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Valentine's Day Surprise

Ever wonder how your rig would fare against a 50' Oak ?? This is going to change my early season wandering plans. I'll be trekking in Nepal for 28 days and when I return in April I'll be shopping for a new truck and FWC/ATC.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Truck for Hawk: F-150 or Tundra?

I had a '03 Tundra that never had any mechanical issues the whole time I owned it. However, the brakes on it were horrible with any load. The rear sagged 2-3 inches with my Hawk on it so I added helper springs which leveled it out. Because the '03 was so dependable I purchased my current '14...

Yeah- not exactly sitting in front of the fire with a nice glass of wine music. More like for when you're pulling one of those 12-14 hour drives across the desert with a cup of coffee in hand!!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Actual Location of Soldier Meadows Hot Springs

The time I went there I drove from Gerlach up Soldier Meadows Road - just before you get to Solder Meadows Cabins and Resort it's to your left. I don't remember any signage but it was late in the day ( 11/2/13 ) according to my photos) and I saw the steam coming up from the pools so I just...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Merry Christmas to Me

Yes- that's the Expedition I have. The main reason for buying it was the 13' length which provides better tracking and is much faster. Like I said I find myself more inclined to pack the shorter boat because of weight and also packs down smaller. For overnighters or weekends close to home I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Merry Christmas to Me

I've got DSXL and the Expedition. I carry mine behind the drivers seat. The Expedition only weighs 7 lbs more but I really feel the difference pulling it out of the truck and portaging to the shore. I find myself using the DSXL much more than the Expedition although it's slower and doesn't...

Just read the Curve Of Time by M.Wylie Blanchet. Blanchet was a widow in the late 1920s that took her 5 children on summer boating adventures along the coast of British Columbia. I couldn't help but admire this woman's courage and sense of adventure as she and her children dealt with...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cleaning Cookware

I always keep a 3gal bucket in the Hawk - heat up some hot water, and wash with a small scrub brush. The bucket is handy for picking up water and carrying back to the rig. To minimize cleanup I usually prepare food at home that just requires heating up - like chili, soup, spaghetti sauce...

Just read Fire Season by Philip Connors. Connors worked as a fire lookout in the Gila Wilderness for 10 years. RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Leveling blocks?

I use 2x6's , 2-20" long and 2-16" long. just stack them as needed with a 4" gap at the end to create steps. If I need more height a rock or chunk of firewood usually does the trick. I also have a couple of short 4x6s I use for my floor jack that could be used if there's nothing else around.
