Nice job, Well thought out and very clean. It looks like you covered the roof on your FWC with a aftermarket product. What did you use? Thanks.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Levitt Lake

I would not call the main camping area next to the lake "trashed". Heavy use, yes, but not trashed. We were camping down the road about 1/2 mile and there were zero people. They were all at the lake. My guess is because of our remoteness to the main area, it was prone to shooting and the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Installing and venting a Cubic Mini Wood Stove

A bit late here, but I have done the same work. I gutted my Hawk and it now rests on the bedrails too. Love it, so much more space! No way do I need a dedicated stove, icebox, heater and poorly executed cabinets inside. Far less weight too. I am considering a wood stove and yes, the chimney is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Levitt Lake

At the end of a longer road trip, we ended up at Levitt Lake, off Hwy 180 off of Sonora Pass. I heard the road was sketchy so I did a bit of research to get some more info. From what I could find, it seemed fine. The drive up was uneventful although I had to use 2ed gear, low range to get over...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West RimRocker trail and Blazer Bash in Moab

Thanks for the reply. I completely get what you are saying about noise, heat, space, etc. Yes, I would agree the benefits outweigh the negatives. I would like to do that to my Dodge, but the work would be epic and not worth it. Lucky you to have that option.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West RimRocker trail and Blazer Bash in Moab

In one of your nighttime camping photos showing the interior of your Blazer, it looks like I can see the drivers seat and rearview mirror. Did you open up the camper and back of the cab to make a walkthrough?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cerro Gordo conditions on the East side.

Weather permitting, hoping it is not too hot, we are planning on exiting Saline Valley over Hunter Mtn and Cerro Gordo Peak. We are wondering if there is a bunch of snow on the East side. If anybody has any information, that would be great. I have a high clearance 4wd truck. Thanks.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West WTB a 4WD van

Looking for a 4wd van, not a sprinter, just a solid Chevy or Ford van Quigly conversion is preferred. It can be a plain interior, one that can be built, or have one already built. Prefer gas, but will consider a diesel. If you have one or know of anybody who has one, please contact me. Thanks.

If you reeeeeeeeealy want to make your 1st gen freeway worthy, get a Gear Vendors Overdrive. Pricy, but well worth it! For 10 years I had a '96 that I modified a lot to make it a camping expedition truck. I sold it and not have a '05 and am much much happier. The GV lets me cruise @1550 rpm @75...

I am with you on this one! All I see is a complex item waiting to break and the repair is absurd. Hated my electric hubs so much, I went to old school manual. Far happier. Anybody want my stereo? I can hardly turn the damn thing on, much less figure out to play a CD then switch to my phone. I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Various parts off my Hawk rebuild - free or for sale

Interesting project. I just gutted my Hawk and turned it into a camper shell. I removed everything and it now sits on the top of the bedrails instead of resting on the bed floor. Tons more room, lighter, and I don''t want all the extra stuff inside. Still a work in progress.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wind noise from a FWC

2005 Regular cab 4x4 Long Bed truck. I have a FWC camper and the wind noise that it generates is far too loud. I am sure it is coming from the area where the camper sticks out from the side of the cab and the space behind the cab and camper itself. Has anybody else had (have) this experience? Is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Driving on gravel roads, use 2wd or 4wd ?

I ALWAYS use 4wd for these reasons. The front wheels turn easier, far better steering, far better response. Often if the dirt is loose, the front wheels get pushed forward and the front end is not responsive. When power is applied to the front wheels, they "pull" themselves over bumps instead of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Crazy?: Taking I-5 to I-10 in SoCal on a Weekday Late-Afternoon

Something totally different here. First, I-5 is a dismal drive, the scenery is sucks, the trucks a complete nightmare. What happens is the trucks are going 65-70, traffic is 80. The right lane bunches up behind the truck and the cars will cut you off to squeeze in. Once the truck has been...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Baja 2017/18 Conversations...

if not too late, make SURE that your insurance will cover you on dirt roads. Discuss that with the agent. A lot of the companies only cover paved roads and since there are very few of them there, you might be in trouble. Bring goodies for the kids, soccer shoes, frisbees, etc. Los of goodwill...
