RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FYI Sierra Death Ride this Saturday 7-11-15.

Hats off to you kmcintyre! I have not ridden the Death Ride, but I have crossed over Sonora, Monitor, Ebbots, Carson, Pacific Crest, many, many times. Quite possibly the best cycling country in the world. I love that area!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West I thought California to Alaska was cool and then......

A few months ago we met and invited a lone traveler who started in Quebec, over to Washington, to continue down to Argentina, on his bicycle. He is now in Peru.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anyone want to join a trip to pacific side Baja in June?

If you really want to go exploring, go to Mission Santa Maria, outside of Catavenia. Be prepared, be very prepared for a very, very bad 12 or so mile road. Reward will be a oasis of ponds, palm trees and the old mission that is quietly melting back into the ground. Punta Canoas can provide some...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Expo Mud Fest....Anyone care to fess up?

I used to live on a steep dirt/clay road that would turn into the most incredible gumbo every winter. The mud would cling to everything, often packing the front wheel wells to the point where turning the wheels was impossible. Can't tell you how many times I would just park the truck at a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Monitor Pass & Heenan Lake

I love that pass, have bicycled it many times on the way to Markleeville. Of course the hot springs in Markleeville are a huge incentive. Nice report, nice photographs. thanks.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Death Valley - Spring Break 2015

At the top of Ubehebe if you turn right and go overland for a few hundred yards there is a copper mine shaft going into the mountain. Fantastic rocks of amazing colors are all around. I have to admit, Ubehebe is one outstanding hike. Nice write up.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Auto or Manual transmission with Diesel

I am a manual person. With my 12 valve and NV2500, I find it easy. I almost always in low range where the gears are closer and I can maintain a low RPM. When the road gets rough, I take my foot off the accelerator and just let the engine idle the truck along, even going up steep hills. Works...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Trip report Highway 395 and the Southern CA FWC Rally

Jalama is one of my favorite spots. Hard to get it with no wind, but when you do, it is fantastic. I know the person with the white flat bed pop up camper. He works in the same company as my wife, Patagonia.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Kings Canyon / Sequoia NP

You like to hike? In the beginning, as you enter the Park, the first campground is Potwisha. I will be on your left. From there, hike to Marble Falls, about 4-5 miles rt. I can be hot, but at the end are these amazing pools, surrounded by white marble. Outstanding. Not a lot of elevation gain...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Baja or Bust...

I have found that Cabo San Quintin to be a interesting place. Look for it on a map, it is West of San Quintin. You will drive on the sand for almost 10 miles. Very remote, very beautiful. Pismo clams are for the taking. There is a surf place there too. Don't know your rig, but if you have good...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ebbetts, Monitor, and Sonora Pass

Not the Death Ride. For years and years, a group of us would leave Murphy's, go over Sonora to 395, over Monitor to Markleeville, over Ebbots, Pacific Grade, back to Murphy's. One layover day in Markleeville, usually went over Carson up to South Lake Tahoe. Took 4 days of riding. Some of the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rileys first time

There is always one rotten apple to spoil the barrel. Always a bummer. Thanks for picking up after them. My wife and I do regular trash pickups with Los Padres Forest Watch in our area.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Going to Flagstaff I-40 from Ventura

Nice route. I have done that, beats I-17 North anytime. Sedona is beautiful, if you can get away from the intense crowds. A nice hike, although easy and possibly others will be there is up West Creek. If you are willing, bring wet shoes and wool socks and keep going after the trail ends. It dead...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Going to Flagstaff I-40 from Ventura

I understand the "find a secluded spot" thinking, I have done that many times. I was just thinking if anybody out there knew of a location that was special, it would help us plan. We will be spending 2 nights somewhere as we drive. Going slow.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Going to Flagstaff I-40 from Ventura

Short work/play trip to Flagstaff over Easter weekend. I want to spend at least one night out. Leaving early on Friday morning, spending Friday night out, hiking, messing around on Saturday, rolling into Flag Saturday evening. Any ideas of places, campsites, etc would be appreciated. 4x4 roads...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Heading to Baja Soon

If you are going to Bay of LA, drive North to Punta La Gringa. Remote, great camping and excellent clams if you know where to look. If you are real adventurous, drive out to Mission Santa Maria from Catavina. Some really cool fresh water springs and pools there, a full oasis, but you will need a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West central coast / big sur suggestions for this weekend

A great hike is Salmon Creek, just above Ragged Point. Since you are at sea level, it all up and up and up, but it is worth it. Beware of tics, plenty of them. Boondocking is a bit harder. Along the ridge accessed by the Ferguson road are some dirt roads. Check out a good map for them. Great...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Death Valley Questions again?

From the Racetrack, climb up to Ubehebe Peak. Some really cool mines up there. The view of the Racetrack and to the West are just over the top outstanding.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West My October trip to the San Francisco Bay Area.

I just returned from Pescadero and the Marsh yesterday. My wife has a gig up in Asilomar and I visited my brother in Menlo Park. Both Saturday and Sunday we drove over to the beaches, hiked and walked all day. The weather was stunning, zero wind, huge waves, full sun. Nice to see your pictures...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fort Bragg Area

It may be a bit too far, but if you can make it to Shelter Cove, it is a beautiful little area. There is one area where you can park on the beach, day use only. You will be in the "Lost Coast" area of California, outstanding place. My wife and I just backpacked the trail from Mattole Beach to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ebbetts Pass

No, not the Death Ride, although I know it well. We did our own private ride. We would start in Murphy's and stop in Dardanelles for the first night. Next was Sonora Pass, epic ride up that, down too. Very technical. On to Bridgeport, up to Walker, over Monitor Pass to Markleeville for the...
