RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Hawk Quirks

It took 15 years but I eventually got some bubbling and did the repair like barking spider. Mine also seems to be holding up just fine.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fly Fishing Oregon & Idaho Wilderness - August 2023

Nice burgers. I might have even foregone the bun.

I see many are trying to get out and getting stuck.

Its okay. Authorities are bringing in portable cell towers. No need to panic.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A Trip Gone Awry

good point. I live at sea level (pretty dang close, 25asl) and i try and spend a day or two at 6-7k before I move on up. Ted's spot is as high as I'll go in a day trip and that's pushing it.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A Trip Gone Awry

When I was in the White Mountains I developed a headache. Mild hangover? I did have a pliny for dinner. I decided it wasn't worth the risk just in case it was altitude sickness and promptly descended. I hate to see people rutting up roads because they didn't want to turn around :(

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Autumn, Gottem

.01 so far this morning. Supposed to warm up next week but they've dropped it from the mid nineties to the low nineties. I can live with that.

I"ve never driven on it when its wet (not that crazy) but I've seen plenty of pictures of people who just sink right down to the frame. We have clay soils in the delta and theres still probably traces of it on my Jeep. I gave up mud in my twenties or at least I try hard to avoid it.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Current Spike in Gas Prices

Diesel is 5.69 at one station. Across the street its 4.69. You should see the big rigs trying to get in.

Massive drop in temps today. Slight chance of rain here. I suspect there will be no further road blockages either :)

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cost of Repairing a New Truck

Scary part is if it fails or is stolen while you're offroad you're screwed.

I love to drill holes. A bonus for this project. Even used the same color nylon cord.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cost of Repairing a New Truck

When I retired I hoped I was done with wrenching on my own stuff. Instead I have to do my own work, if I can. I cringe when I pay a shop but all I have to do is look at new truck prices to know I did the right thing. I have no desire for that latest in tech. I still roll up my own windows!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Testimonial #0817

Funny how the walk around doesn't always work. I was at the FWC rally up past Sierraville. I pulled up, did a superficial walkround and left. I was parked in tall grass and it wasn't until I got home I realized I left my leveling blocks behind :(

The best way to know the top is up is paying attention to the waves of people as they pass you.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Weather Warning - SoCal and NV Rain Event

The weather folks were showing the radar. Scattered showers over the area followed with a story on a wind driven grass fire. I have a feeling we won't see much of the damage for a while yet. Until people get into the backcountry and see what's been washed out.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dealer Gives Our Truck Away

I'd call that sort of a win win. They certainly could have done more since it was clearly on them. As is I'd certainly be hesitant to have them work on my vehicle. Look how much bad publicity they just got. If they'd have done a little more this probably wouldn't have warranted a post.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What walkie talkie sets do you use?

The more options you give yourself the better. Ham is very useful when I head South down 395. The Bishop Amateur Radio Club has good coverage from Mono Lake down South. Heading North Lassen has very good coverage, Plumas not so much. I am also GMRS licensed but I haven't found it very useful...
