Airing down tires with camper on

To increase comfort and reduce shaking the camper to bits, we reduce from 45/62 psi down as low as 15/20. Washboard isn’t as bad as big rocks, so we reduce to about 25/30. Were not rock crawlers but enjoy getting to places on pretty rough roads.

Anyone w/ a Tacoma have to change a tire? (Jack good enough?)

Ours works fine with a loaded Fleet, even on a gravel road. It’s hard to lift the wheel with E rated tire though! I lever it up using the lug wrench.

Do you travel with your jacks?

We don’t even own jacks. However, I made some using 4x4 posts and steel plates that have been used twice to check or adjust the camper position. Ours tends to shift to the left. Just shifted t back yesterday.

do you lower tire pressure when you remove camper

Also braking might be better with proper inflation for the rear axle. On our setup, all the camper load is on the rear axle.

Going to Death Valley, a few questions

We drove the Hunter Mtn and White Top Mtn roads about 2 weeks ago with no trouble. However it snowed a bit later when we were in Saline Valley.

New member w/Q's about Tacomas and Ocelots

Weight added behind the rear axle unloads the front axle (pivot effect). And the weight removed from front adds to rear. Something to keep in mind. The rear axle is affected more than you’d think.

F350 tire airing down ranges w/ truck camper

That makes sense. Driving fast at low pressures can overheat tires.

Barrel latch at rear lift panel

Yes on pushing up the panel. But I found another problem: a few times I didn’t unlatch before lifting the roof. It lifted and pulled out the latch easier than you would think, enlarging the hole each time. Oops!

concerns with my 1/2 ton over payload capacity

Good that you weighed it, so you know the story ahead of time. I had the same concerns before getting our camper. After all the calculations, and removing some components, on long trips we are still up to 600 lb overweight. It's too late to do anything about it, so I'm at the rationalizing...

concerns with my 1/2 ton over payload capacity

The weight of the camper on our Access cab Tacoma was 100% on the rear axle. At least it wasn’t over that, which it could if we hung stuff off the trailer hitch for example. Then it could take weight off the front axle.

    Camp shovel suggestions

We carry an avalanche snow shovel (used in our glacier climbing days). I gotta admit it's probably too wimpy for anything serious, and ain't shaped right for digging in the desert. So far we've not used it though. It'd be ok for sand. And the handle is removable, the whole thing is light weight...

concerns with my 1/2 ton over payload capacity

I'm not sure how Sumosprings are sized for your truck. But for our empty Tacoma, there is a gap between the top of the "spring" (it's more like a close cell foam material, and acts like an airbag) and the frame. So with an empty truck it's not doing anything. But heavily loaded it's worked great...

Purging the water system for Serious winter camping

Does anyone have a picture or drawing of the tank drain? I’m curious if parking on a steep hill removes a significant percentage of water through the drain.
