Bottom line: I've not found good guidance on tire pressures based on axle weight. There's lots of opinions but I'm not sure they are science based. Tires are complicated and have non-linear characteristics. Rules of thumb may be ok in a small region of axle loading, but in our case the rear axle...
Looks like we can't edit our posts after a certain time interval. Anyway I forgot to say the pressures are for our "pizza cutter" narrow and taller 235/85R16 tires.
If you attach things like a folding bench/bed, fridge, sink, etc. you might want thicker wood. Or maybe some backup material under to give it something for the threads.
I think there's lots of opportunity to save weight in these campers. But it could add labor for the manufacturers (cheap in...
Now this is cool! Have you weighed your aluminum frame to see if its around 42 lb?
Maybe you can save a little weight by using thinner panels for the vertical pieces. Perhaps the narrow horizontal pieces can also be thinner. Deflection and strength of a flat plate is dramatically affected by...
Here's another way to think of tire pressure, and a very easy way to measure front to rear. I'm not convinced a tire engineer would agree... Anyway I measured ours and we were pretty close on all four tires.
Adjusting tire pressures
Update: we now have five identical tires and wheels. We've decided to do the five tire cross rotation: spare to right rear, then right front, the left rear, then left front, then to the spare location. I like to do it myself.
Nto my area of expertise, but that looks like a fatigue crack. The bottom of it has some corrosion and may be from some time ago, but the upper looks freshly cracked. Anyway, we hope your repairs go smoothly!
We ran into a guy deep into the Death Valley backcountry last month who was bogged down in mud. He had Starlink and used it to contact a tow service. $3000! Ouch. We gave him the Facebook group who will help out in these situations and a guy was able to help the next day. The next morning he...
Deb found that book in an antique store in Port Townsend, WA about 25 years ago. She was completely enthralled with Manly's story. Fast forward some years and she HAD to write and illustrate Manly's story. We spent four years traveling the entire route from Wisconsin to Santa Clarita including...
Hopefully Julie will get her wish and some of it will stick. Not on the dogwood, but on the ground where a shovel can be wielded. Enjoy the dinner and breakfast!
Update on the Froli (the ski3pins call them "frolic"!) springs:
There's plenty of condensation on the "floor" of the bed area, but the springs lift the mattress above it. So the mattress is doing great. We get condensation even on relatively warm nights.
It's a little tricky wiping it dry each...
Our truck is named, so by proxy so is the camper. The truck color is "quicksand", so we named it "Sandy". Probably an appropriate name after all the dust and sand we got all over it the past couple of weeks.
