    Backcountry/Roadside Camping Rules Change DVNP

It looks like their backcountry map hasn't been changed to reflect this. For example, Hole in the Wall Rd doesn't show anything similar to the yellow-marked areas on the rest of the map. Maybe that's coming soon...

    Taking the Mirrorless Plunge

Can you take pictures of yourself with a mirrorless camera? ;)

Salt Springs, Sierra Nevada - October 2022

I wonder if they only put a few inches of water in the "buckets". Filling all the way would take sooooo long to dry. And what if it rained? Did they put Goretex over the "buckets", so the vapors would escape, but rain wouldn't come in?

Best method for shifting/moving camper in the truck bed?

I just shifted ours yesterday. I barely lifted it, then pushed it slightly and lowered a back corner down, barely. I used a piece of fencing wood to gently pry it over. Did the same with the front, but there’s no safe way to pry so I had my wife lower while I nudged it. That took a couple...

    Portable Air Compressors

Vic, good suggestion. Actually I recently changed the filter. Let's see if that helps. I didn't even notice the spare filter in the bag -- silly! One thing I've done (probably bad) is to put some water on the fins, to help it cool down. I didn't want to have it melt the nylon carrying bag...

    Portable Air Compressors

I forgot to say we didn't blow fuses the first few years with our Viair 300P. It just started last year. Maybe there's something wrong with it.

    Portable Air Compressors

My Viair 300P is blowing 40a fuses constantly. We've gone through 4 fuses in one sitting. If any one has tips, let me know. It's sized for 33" tires, and ours are about 31". I've heard to start it up before attaching to the tire's valve, then you don't get the amperage surge. I've just started...

Wow, some dramatic photography! What a trip. Those old rocks and trees are making me feel quite young.

Should FWC campers be marketed towards Tacomas?

Really interesting, Weissenheimer. We have a 2018 Taco with the "off trail" package, and are also overweight despite our backpacking mentality of "less is more". Ours is the tiny rear seat version, so the shorter truck with 6' bed. Our front axle is the same with and without the camper. Rear is...

    10 gallon propane?

We don't have a camping grill and our truck is overweight, so we just bring one tank. The other stays home and gets used on that grill!

    10 gallon propane?

We have! Aren’t they 10 lb, not gal?

    I got an electric F150

I wonder if the Chevy Bolt battery-charge engine technology scales up for trucks. Sometimes things work at smaller scale, but not larger. No idea in this case.

    Mosquito Fire

Here's a video of some guys on Mt Baring yesterday. Scary since we were on the next ridge just two days ago. Anyway, hope your area is ok! 406 is bad. We are only 170 here.

We feel for you. We have bad smoke and ash too, from a fire that roared up suddenly yesterday. We had been climbing a peak there just the day before. Yikes.

Toyota dealer wouldn't work on my truck w/ camper attached.

Our Everett WA Toyota dealer didn't balk at the camper when we brought it in for the free oil changes when it was new. Next oil change will be at home! I need to do a front-end alignment soon though, not something I'd tackle. I wonder if all those rough roads are kinda tough on the alignment...

Question about lithium batteries and storage

There's no doubt that lithium batteries are far different than AGM batteries. Our 2006 Prius has Nickel metal hydride batteries, and the system keeps the batteries charged 40-60% the vast majority of the time. I've also heard lithium batteries, for longest life, should be used from 20%-80%...
