RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Victron DC to DC charger upgrade help / 2017 Hawk

I also got mired in the "smart" alternator issue for our Tacoma. Our Renogy dual charge controller has a sensor wire that I have hooked up to the trailer positive line to sense engine on. But to be honest we don't use that. We seem to get 25-ish amps from the 30A charge controller into the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Air compressor fitting for blowing out water system?

I thought of putting a 60W bulb in the pump compartment. We don't typically get deep freezes. Has anyone tried that?

Don't forget to use it each fall! We forgot, and got to buy a new pump and manifold this last spring.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Trashcan Mount

ckent323, what an interesting product you've been involved with. I've used canisters out backpacking a few times and they are a bit difficult to fit in a pack, due to the cylindrical shape. Did you test other shapes, or were you trying to keep the weight as light as possible? As a former...

DVNP reports that they broke the measured record for one day's rain, over 2" on Sunday. The previous record was Aug, 2022, which did a lot of damage throughout the park. Photos here: https://www.nps.gov/deva/learn/nature/hilary.htm

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Renogy Controller & Battery Install

That’s a good point. If you have solar on the roof, the alternator side will only draw half amps on that particular Rengy charger. So that’s a way to mitigate heat. we don’t have roof solar, so ive seen 25-30 amps.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Renogy Controller & Battery Install

I had several nice chats with Mr. Ski3pin and also got the Renogy he used, but decided on the 30A unit. I figured it would get less hot, because the box and heat fins are the same as the 50A version as far as I can tell. The only convenient place to mount it was in the battery compartment on our...

A friend, who used to hang out on this site, built his own. He claimed it helped noise, but not gas mileage. Here's a link to his DIY project, and read the other posts in the thread: https://www.wanderthewest.com/forum/topic/11649-new-fwc-camper-wind-fairing-suggestions/?p=167251

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Airbags, Springs, Sumo Springs with a camper - quick removal solution of Sumo Springs when no camper

We have the black Sumosprings (as of 2018). When I installed them (easy job, didn't have to jack up anything), there was a gap between them and the overtravel bump stop. So without the camper the truck seems to ride normally. But note that I never had a truck before, so take that with a grain of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper shifting

Ours only seems to shift to the left (driver's side). Maybe that's because the camper has all it's heavy gadgets on that side (fridge, heat, sink, stove). Bummer that the fuel tank is also on that side, but that's another issue. We have the rubber mats. Generally it only moves when on nasty roads.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West lowering tire pressure

We've gone as low as 15 psi front, 20 rear (E-rated tires). Sometimes when I'm feeling conservative, we'll do 20/25. But placard pressure (P-rated tires) is 30/30. On pavement we're running 47/62, so we're using about 1/3 pavement pressure. I like the speed rule of thumb, ramblinChet! Great...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Should I avoid a Fleet/Tacoma combo because of overweight?

We have 5 years experience with our Tacoma/Fleet. We have been up to 700 lb over GVWR, which is clearly wrong. I ain't saying this is right or smart. Our camper doesn't have some of your features, so may be lighter, and we've removed some things like the bed extender, one of the propane...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ultimate Battery Thread

That would be cool if the controller did that. We go on one or two dozen trips a year, so our battery is at 100% most of the time out camping. On the last day or two, I can disconnect the truck-camper plug through one of the turnbuckle ports. It's not super easy, but doable. Then it discharges...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tire Width - Which is Better?

I wonder if the wider tire is supposed to have lower pressure. Anyway, it’s getting close to new tires time. I met a guy other day who had 265/75R16 instead of 265/70R16. So I’m thinking about whether an increase of 1” diameter is a good idea (about 3.5%). Hmmm.

We also have an SOK battery. It's great -- except for the bluetooth "SOC" (state of charge). The way they made it, it doesn't work. But I heard they fixed that. Hope you got the fixed battery management system. Our solution was to get a coulomb counter - this one -...

You may have problems with the antenna "seeing" the satellites. It might work right next to the windshield.
