RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Foldable solar panel

I recently got a flexible panel from Rich Solar (100W). It's only been tried at home. But I got extension cords that will reach the windshield and the top of the camper. For the top, I can place it with the camper down, then lift the popup. It won't slide forward because of the roof vent, Then...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Casters to move Camper

Mine is a 2x8 frame, with 3/8" plywood on the bottom to keep the frame from warping into a parallelogram, and one brace side-to-side to keep the long 2x8s from rolling. I figured the stiffness of the camper with it's deep frame was more than the stiffness of the dolly, so most of the weight ends...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Onboard Spares

I carry a very small backpacking stove and one cannister. So far, in 4 years, we've not used it (except backpacking, of course). We use just one 10 lb propane tank.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 10lbs propane tank weight

I've heard the tank exchanges at grocery stores, etc. that the tanks are not filled as much as one would like. So for the 10 lb, tanks what's a minimum practical weight? Or if you can slosh something around, is it still usable? I've never gotten ours below about 17-18 lbs.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Which way do you sleep?

We didn’t do that and haven’t had the mattress move. But the bottom of our mattress is vinyl, so maybe it’s a little sticky.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Winter Watch

We're gonna get a cold snap in NW Washington state. Unfortunately, I didn't drain and blow out the water system during an earlier cold snap, and am paying the price. Had to get a new pump, strainer, and manifold for our Fleet. The strainer needs replacing only because this dufus stripped the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Which way do you sleep?

Our bed extender was 28 lb, and the cushions 14 lb. Saved 42 lbs, can add more FOOD! We also only take one 10-lb propane tank, that's another 27 lbs (full). Even MORE food!

Our heads are on the west end, but that wasn't your question! We are short enough that it works, and don't use the slideout part of the bed.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Death Valley National Park - February 2023

Great report! Good eye on the camel track, but we know you two have a knack for finding things. And good thing that Julie took the doc's advice instead of that other advice. It's hard to keep up with her! I wish Wonder Hussy had hiked up to the Morning Glory Mine and grabbed our walkie talkie...

Oh, thanks for that idea! I just ordered that cable. Solves another problem I had for airing up tires.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How to add shore power to shell model?

You could get a portable AC-DC converter designed for your AGM batteries, and just use an extension cord. Ours came with a built-in Iota DLS30/IQ4 charger, which uses about 400W (outputting 30 amps, 12+ volts). These comments coming from a lazy cheapskate! See if you can run an extension cord on...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tacoma and Project M thoughts

We have a heavier camper than the "M" on our '18 Tacoma. Gas mileage drop is about 25% -- from about 22 down to 17-ish. But we drive slowly. Our last trip we needed to rush a bit more, and there were headwinds, so our mileage was more like 14-15 mpg, and one tank was 13. Ouch. Since when I drive...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC and 30A power?

I think the issue is the wire gauge in the camper leading to the 120V AC circuit breaker. Can it handle 30a? If so it needs to be, I think, 10AWG (someone more knowledgeable should check). After that much power gets to the circuit breaker panel, those can size the wires downstream of it. I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West newish FWC owner looking to upgrade

I had been using a portable folding angel, 22 lb, stores in a zippered case. But I just got a 5 lb flex panel and will experiment with that. Of course, it’s wired with opposite polarity! So check that.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Shurflo water pump

Yesterday I put water in the camper and a little bleach to clean out the systerm. Alas, our Shurflo 4009-101-A32 pump made the usual sound but pumped nothing. I have to admit I neglected to blow out the system before we had temperatures in the low-mid 20s. I removed the pump and took it all...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ghost In My Roof Vent

Definitely chat with FWC. Maybe they'll replace it? You never know. We had an issue that our dealer fixed it gratis (delam of some cabinetry edges), and that was about six months in.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ghost In My Roof Vent

Yeah you are probably right. It’d be interesting to try pulling it up from above your camper. So how would a bungee work? Isn’t there a screen? I’m not sure what you would grasp.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tire tread depth for replacement

It always seems strange that E rated tires need higher pressure than P rated tires. I've searched for reasons, and all I can think of is too-low pressure causes them to overheat at high speed, damaging the plies. Presumably that's because the thicker walls don't shed heat as well, and they are...
