RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Single Sheet Roof "Tin Canning"...Why?

Interesting. I also worked with aerospace structures, and we had to check for natural frequency -- I think over 33 Hz but my memory is fuzzy. We didn't want our wings resonating, that might frighten passengers, not to mention the pilots and the FAA. It would seem a flat sheet with boundary...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cam straps to keep turnbuckles from loosening?

The cam strap sounds interesting. Without a jam nut (as delivered from factory), we'd get loose turnbuckles frequently. After the jam nut, it's infrequent but happens. Running a strap through the two turnbuckles per side might work just as well.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Single Sheet Roof "Tin Canning"...Why?

Perhaps adding stiffeners to the inside is more practical. You’d have to remove/replace the insulation and lining though. If there’s a delamination maybe some angles bonded to the top skin and frame could work.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Doing Dishes

We carry dehydrated water in the form of paper towels. It takes a lot of water to make paper. We live in a former mill town and the water that the Scott plant used was tremendous. On our last trip, we lasted 7 days with 20 gal water, even with sponge baths and dishes, and might have lasted two...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How Thirsty are 2nd GEN Tundras? 5.7 V8s

I think it's relaxing driving a bit slower in my retirement years. Instead of trying to pass everyone, just keep your eye on the rear view mirror, to avoid holding up professional drivers, and keep from clogging the road. Gas mileage goes up, and have time to get to camp an hour later, no big deal.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Airbags vs new leaf springs?

One reason might be that airbags and Sumosprings contact the overload feature on your rear suspension. So they are kind of a bandaid. I must admit I've only added Sumosprings to our truck, and we are definitely overloaded...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 4th generation Tacoma

Probably the starter battery can't fit with a motor and engine under the hood. Our Prius 12V battery isn't in that crowded area either.

Another slow poke! That's pretty good mileage, similar to ours. My motto is to start slow, and taper off.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 4th generation Tacoma

Toyota announced the "all-new" 2024 Tacoma today. It has a hybrid engine and one model has 33" tires. It'll be interesting to see how this will work for truck camping, like what the payload is, and if the 4WD capability with the hybrid engine is any different. Will the electric motor drive two...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Replace Air Bags or Not?

Same here on SumoSprings. We use the black ones. When the camper is off our truck (rarely), there's a gap and so the SumoSprings aren't taking any load. I like that they can't leak.

You could look at another 200AH battery too. For example, I got an SOK and it seems to work fine (except the phone app via Bluetooth doesn't calculate battery state-of-charge correctly). Dimensions are here: https://www.currentconnected.com/product/sok-sk12v206/

This is a neato thread that I hadn't noticed before! I'm going to go through this in more detail. At the risk of self-family promotion, here's a book (actually a graphic novel) that my wife wrote about Death Valley's 1849er hero, William Lewis Manly. This link has information on Manly's trip...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Using tow/haul mode with lighter campers

Our truck has that feature, which I tried the first few times driving. But I completely forgot it exists! I couldn't really tell any difference at the speeds I drive... (slowly). I'd rather have good gas mileage than power. I figure the designers know the best RPM for typical situations.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hauling FWC on stock 2021 Toyota Tacoma

Our Tacoma barely notices the camper is on there. It should be fine. Mule will upgrade your rear suspension, but in my opinion it'll be fine for one ride. Do it in the daytime, as your lights will be pointing a bit upwards. All the weight of our camper was on the rear axle. Take anything out...
